What about Burnley? They have slashed their wage bill two seasons running to comply with FFP - McCann and Paterson left in the summer after being asked to take a 40% pay cut, Dean Marney and Ross Wallace both accepted 40% cuts and Marney is having his best season for the Clarets since joining in 2010.

 

Shackell was the last player signed on good wages and he is probably the only one on more than £10,000-a-week. I read somewhere that Burnley were now trying to set a maximum of £7,000-a-week.

 

Even in our one Premier season, the highest earners were £15,000-a-week except Nugent was on loan. He was said to be on £25,000-a-week at Portsmouth and Burnley agreed to pay this..

 

He wanted to stay if we had not been relegated but we could not afford his wages in the championship.

It's all over the shop this year, as it was last. I still fancy Yeovil to beat the drop - they seem to have the fight Barnsley put on last season, but the next couple of games might be key for them given their three suspensions and small squad - it remains to be seen what their back-up is like, as they seem to be an unknown quantity. Charlton, too, are finally picking up results, and with a potential Wembley trip for them in the next month, I can see Chrissy P galvanising his support and team. I've gone on record saying that games in hand count for nothing unless you win them, but if that does happen, they could suddenly find themselves with a 5-point gap on Millwall.

Can't see anything improving for poor old Blackpool, so they may well be sharing the pitch with Crawley and Carlisle next year unless they find points from somewhere - if that does happen, Doncaster look like a shoe-in, as much as I like Dickov. Likewise, Ollie has never really succeeded in relegation dogfights in recent times, and so Millwall may be a lost cause. FInally, unless there's a minor miracle, Barnsley look destined for the drop.
