Buce Posted 2 June 2014 Posted 2 June 2014 I can't find the thread for the first trial in this case; it's a pity, because I remember various posters playing at judge, jury and execitioner, before he'd even had a trial.

Yep. Soon as his name was mentioned with EDL people couldn't wait to hang him. Personally I think he's just misunderstood. I'd like to see him work in a school alongside his rehabilitation.

Rincewind Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 Paranoia. Easily manipulable. It may affect your mental health if you let it get to you and rule your life.
leicsmac Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 Is being racist considered a mental illness now? I think that's quite reasonable. If you dislike everyone in a particular demographic for no good and clear reason I think it's reasonable to say you've got a screw loose.
ADK Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 I think that's quite reasonable. If you dislike everyone in a particular demographic for no good and clear reason I think it's reasonable to say you've got a screw loose. Who gets to define what is good reason?
Merging Cultures Posted 6 July 2014 Author Posted 6 July 2014 Who gets to define what is good reason? Our democratically elected representatives and the independent judiciary.
leicsmac Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 Who gets to define what is good reason? The people being involved in the conversation where the accusation of being racist and where the reason for being so is given, I would guess. I'm inclined to think a dislike of every single individual in one demographic without having actually interacted with every single one of them is irrational and prejudiced by it's very definition despite any reason you might have for doing so, and most people would identify that in conversation. The word "racist" does get bandied about an awful lot though when a person is just doing something the other guy doesn't like, so I see what you mean about a lack of definition as to what's racist and what's not. In the end, I think it just comes down to common sense.
leicsmac Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 Our democratically elected representatives and the independent judiciary. Aren't such things wildly open to interpretation though? So I think in the legal sense the definition tends to vary from case to case.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 Remember kids, in 2014 there are still ways you can be detained indefinitely without having been convicted of a crime
purpleronnie Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 Remember kids, in 2014 there are still ways you can be detained indefinitely without having been convicted of a crime Marriage?
Merging Cultures Posted 6 July 2014 Author Posted 6 July 2014 Aren't such things wildly open to interpretation though? So I think in the legal sense the definition tends to vary from case to case. Which is fine. They get to see all the facts and make decisions based on those. We see media sound bites and make our decisions. Plus, I'm sure there are few legal precedents on this at the moment, but as more cases are seen, hopefully over a long period of time, then cases will become more standardised.
Rincewind Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 You can have prejudiced views embedded in you over years through your family school and social interactions. Most people will voice their opinions vocally but others can be obsessed which would affect their rational thinking. I would say the Westboro mob are a little mental because they will not accept any viewpoint but their own. The children are being brought up the same way. If the kids were moved to another family when young they could have opposite opinions or at least more open minded I guess there are many different definitions of an unbalanced mind even the experts cannot explain so I doubt a layman can figure them out.
