Guest Col city fan Posted 13 March 2014 Posted 13 March 2014 No. Their objective is to get Leicester promoted first and foremost - something which they haven't done yet. Yes, they've done a great job, and yes they should be able to finish the job off, but we're not there yet and there are still plenty of games to play and our focus should be solely on making sure we finish this season as strongly as possible. I'm sure that Pearson will have plans for next season, but I can absolutely guarentee that he won't be taking promotion as a given.
_Fatboyslow_ Posted 13 March 2014 Posted 13 March 2014 Why? He's had fewer saves to make in the past few games than Leicester have scored goals. That's a pretty solid formula. Because he has always done dumb things aka the free kick against Man U he conceded.

People are confusing self-congratulatory satisfaction with preparation for the future. They are two different things. There will be a time to pat ourselves on the back and to celebrate. That time is not yet. And I am not saying it is. However, the main challenge the club faces now is not how to get promoted, because that is virtually assured (unless you disagree with the OP - those were his words). Here are their main challenges: 1) How do they keep who they absolutely want to keep? This is down to contracts, starting with Pearson. 2) How do they decide who to keep and give the big money to if they are not sure of them? They don't want to end up paying PL wages to championship players. That's the Pompey way. This is down to making sure of what they have, and seeing what they can still see on the pitch. 3) Assuming they believe they are well funded, how will they attract the players to come to Leicester that they want? This is where finishing strongly comes into play. Players will want to come to the next Swansea. The next Southhampton. Finishing on 100+ points, as emphatic champions, and challenging records will help this. Expanding the stadium as they previously committed will help this. Settling the debts has already helped this. So yes, as fans and as a team, arrogance is not warranted. But a cleared eyed view of whats ahead is.
Guest Col city fan Posted 13 March 2014 Posted 13 March 2014 I think its about being real. Or at least, sensible. The squad that Nigel and his crew have assembled have shown themselves to be more than capable of being promoted out of this division. Last season, it would now finally seem, was one season too soon. Despite a good start, confidence dipped and we faded away. But the Premiership is a completely different animal. I've never agreed with those who claim that the Prem is 'not all that'. Week on week, you are pitched against the best that British football has to offer. The players are fitter, stronger, many have years of experience of playing in the top flight. The media attention is more prevalent. Basically, its a pressure-cooker environment. What gets you results in the Premiership are two main things. The first is quality. We could be playing really well up at Anfield for 85 minutes, thinking that we've eked-out a draw when Suarez will pop up with something special. The Kop will explode and City will go home thinking that we nearly did it, but that Suarez is something special. We could be winning at home to Hull when, WHACK.. Tom Huddlestone will hit a speculative one from thirty yards that'll fly into the top corner. This quality, you don't get in the Championship, or at least not as often. Secondly.. team spirit and cohesion.. the best teams keep everything behind closed doors, play their cards close to their chests, and play down any rumours of discontent. I have no doubt that City will be fine with the second point. Pearson has demonstrated he can create a squad with a steely determination to bounce-back and to do things his way. The concern I have is with quality. Shoot me down if you like (I'm sure plenty will) but I maintain that we will need to sign some players of the real quality I was speaking of, to turn those 'good efforts' into 'good wins'. We have some already, but we may well need more. Finally, expectation. If our 'fans' are too expectant of success, too quickly (and show this in the stands) then the players could become under even more pressure. This won't do. We must give Pearson, the team and any new signings, the time to find their feet and to see avoiding relegation, in the first season, as the target. Anything else, for me, would be a bonus. A nice bonus, but a bonus nonetheless.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 13 March 2014 Posted 13 March 2014 Hope the squad and the manager don't have the same attitude as you lot. Promotion isn't guarenteed until it's guarenteed. This job is far from over, and thankfully Pearson seems to recognise that in every post-match interview he gives. Yes, we're very well placed, but a couple of key injuries and a few losses on the spin could see us right back in the mix. This

With many being so young, then can keep on improving and become the quality you seek themselves, as they have this year.

But I think I said about quality last season. If we added one or older quality heads to the developing younger players, then we could have gone straight up last year IMO. This season, I said lets just see and take every game at a time. The quality THIS season has come through. Especially in Vardy and Drinkwater. I think that's what I said. I'm sure you'll remind us all if that aint right. Point remains though...

May, June, July 2013 it was said... and about every month going back to July 2012. And the emphasis was on quality, and not the age in the main. We can always do better, adding better players should make us better, it's not really a Nostradamus type prediction.

We have some already, but we may well need more. I was speaking to a person within football recently and he said we do have plenty of quality. We already have enough quality to finish above four teams in the Premier League. We will buy some Premier League experience to go with what we have. But we are going up as a good unit, rather like Southampton, Swansea and how Reading did. There are two issues we have. One is how we cope with the extra man in midfield that most Premier League team use, which will see us having to adapt to a different style. The other key factor is how we react as a group when we have just got battered by Chelsea and Arsenal within a week. Those games do not matter, but it is how we then mentally play the likes of West Ham the week after, which will determine our future. So basically we need to mentally be able to cope with getting a battering and ensure it does not affect us when we play the teams that we need to beat,

Nobody said it was a Nostradamus type prediction. Just my view on the squad back then. The quality in it, another year on, has proved to be the key to this season's success. I think we need to add to it to make a fist of the Prem, if and when we go up. Others don't so much... saying that we are pretty much ok (eg. See above).
itsblueupnorth Posted 13 March 2014 Posted 13 March 2014 We have got 38 points from the last 14 games, which is incredible...would be amazed if we dont finish as champions and gobsmacked if we don't get promotedgobsmacked? - I'll be suicidal

indierich06 Posted 13 March 2014 Posted 13 March 2014 How many managers have won both the Championship and League 1 with the same club? Pearson should go the the hatrick with the Premiership Paul Lambert definitely won automatic promotion from League One and the Championship with Norwich, but I don't think they went up as Champions both times. They finished top of League One, but I'm pretty sure they finished runners up in the Champ - might have been the season that Southampton won it and West Ham went up via the playoffs. Would certainly be a good achievement if he pulls it off - and it's looking highly likely at the minute. And to think there were some on here last season questioning Nigel's 'winning mentality' and whether he was a 'champion'...
melrose Posted 13 March 2014 Posted 13 March 2014 It's impossible to throw this one away, we are too far in front to be caught!
Guest Col city fan Posted 13 March 2014 Posted 13 March 2014 You wanted clarification, I gave it. Blackadder: "Baldrick, have you ANY idea what irony is"? Baldrick: 'Of course my Lord, it's like goldy or silvery, but its made of iron".
LCCFox96 Posted 13 March 2014 Posted 13 March 2014 Still think we need to keep our winning/unbeaten run going for another 3-4 games to secure it. Think we'll do it in style but I'm a nervous fan and want the games to come thick and fast while our for is outstanding. If we can take 6/6 in our next two home games (Blackpool and Yeovil) and at least a point at Blackburn then I think we'll go up. Imo it's to early to talk about champions. We have a 7 point lead. If we have a bad patch and lose 2 and draw 1 Burnley could be right on us or even jump us. Lot of football to play.
