old-dave Posted 19 August 2014 Posted 19 August 2014 On Sunday Sky post the games one of the panel said that teams need 4 strikers. We've got 4 Ulloa, Vardy, Nugent and Wood. Plus Taylor-Fletcher and Schlupp in reserve, plus Hopper. Why do we need another? Won't this cause unrest - not all will make the matchday sqad. Certainly need back-up in midfield and at fullback.
SomalianFox15 Posted 19 August 2014 Posted 19 August 2014 I agree, we need to focus more in the defensive areas.
Houdini Logic Posted 19 August 2014 Posted 19 August 2014 I think the fact you're naming strikers who haven't played above league one answers your own question
MooseBreath Posted 19 August 2014 Posted 19 August 2014 If two get injured we're scoobied but I wouldn't say it's a priority at all. I'd put every position bar gk ahead of striker on the priority list right now. I like that NP wants to be positive and increase his scoring options though. I just think we'd be better off looking at wingers and CAM's.

Too many pannelist on sky just dont do their homework and ask underlings to ghost write or prepare their daily spot. Its down right lazy and why I still believe Sky is 2nd rate in reporting in all sports.Their best for obvious reasons, with intellectual pundits is cricket. Their soccer reports on non london clubs or top 4 is downright diabolical.Their ticker info is pathetic, often mis-spelt. Their rugby info, again outside London clubs pathetic. Their saturday special and sunday soccer shows in contrast I enjoy and are well presented, with present/ explayers uptodate views. One doesnt have to always agree with their opinions, but you can respect them.Theyve done the yards.
bluesbrothers Posted 19 August 2014 Posted 19 August 2014 Ulloa, Nugent, Vardy, Wood and the occasional cameo by GTF seems like plenty of firepower for me - the Everton game confirmed that for me. I still don't understand why we think we need to shell out potentially upwards of £10 million for Deeney when he himself has never played at Premiership level. Midfield back-up is the number one priority now, because though King and Hammond showed on Saturday that they can handle the top tier, we have no backup while DD and James are sidelined.
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 19 August 2014 Posted 19 August 2014 I can still see Chris wood leaving before the window closes
MattGamble92 Posted 20 August 2014 Posted 20 August 2014 Ulloa and wood for the target man role is as good as we are going to get. Vardy and Nugent giving us enough goals running off the big man will be the difference between whether we survive or not. To mention Tom Hopper and GTF as "enough firepower" made me
EGBFitness Posted 20 August 2014 Posted 20 August 2014 I think the fact you're naming strikers who haven't played above league one answers your own question Lambert hadn't played higher than League 1 before he joined Southampton had he?
Aus Fox Posted 21 August 2014 Posted 21 August 2014 If we had two injuries Knocky/Mahrez/ Albrighton could all play in the hole behind a main striker.
An Away Move Posted 21 August 2014 Posted 21 August 2014 Quality not quantity. Yes we have four strikers. But are they the best we should hope to settle for? Would love Deeney to come, but don't think he will....

Oxfordfox83 Posted 21 August 2014 Posted 21 August 2014 Can't see deeny passing up the chance to play in the prem Hope he does-don't see what he'd add. Our new system will, I think, bring the best out of Wood, which means we've got 4 really good options for the number 9, with Knocky, GTF, Albrighton(?) and King as potential cover for the 10 role. My concern is that we are paper thin in midfield at the moment, and don't have enough quality cover in defence (essentially at full back). If Moore is out we look dangerously slow at the back. We might be able to survive on what we have, but looking up front we have more than enough IMO. Is Deeney/ANO a Pearson distraction technique to keep the press off his real deals? I hope so...
