cityfanlee23 Posted 18 January 2015 Posted 18 January 2015 Not much to judge on as we were generally awful for his spell. We did see to nice movement though and I hope we have players who are alive to the passes that need to be fed to him. Was also buoyed to see him actually look to get half a yard and have a shot. We don't have enough players willing to do that. Think Cambiasso will find him no problem! His runs and cambiasso's vision could be a match made in heaven, but we'd need cambi to be moving into a more positive position rather than playing as a defensive player.
reynard Posted 18 January 2015 Posted 18 January 2015 I thought he showed some classy touches but did look a little lightweight. Also needs time as he didn't always know where to take up his position. Sadly he probably needs to be about 6ft 8ins tall to have any chance of getting on the end of the passes likely to be coming his way. I don't think Messi or Ronaldo would have made a difference to us yesterday as they would never have got the ball.
st albans fox Posted 18 January 2015 Posted 18 January 2015 The talk of bringing him on when we were one down is factual but at the same time incorrect. He was getting ready to come on when we conceded. Nigel was bringing him on to try and win the game, not save it.

I mean starting with Nugent and Vardy says to me we're setting up to not lose that match because we are sure a damn it not gonna score with those two on the pitch.

StanSP Posted 18 January 2015 Posted 18 January 2015 Why not try and win it from the start? Just idea y'no. I mean starting with Nugent and Vardy says to me we're setting up to not lose that match because we are sure a damn it not gonna score with those two on the pitch. I don't think it's that. Stoke have very little pace across their pitch (perhaps only Nzonzi & Moses who do have threatening pace). I presume we planned to use Vardy as an outlet to provide chances and use his pace against their defenders who lacked it. It didn't work because he couldn't find any space down our wings and Stoke countered our tactics by packing the midfield and not giving any of ours to play through balls to him. Therefore we resorted to air-balls which Stoke are always going to have a field day against. I very much doubt we set up to not lose. We were out-performed tactically. To say we're not gonna score with those 2 on the pitch is wrong because it's happened against United and Liverpool. Limited examples, I know, but it has happened. It does work for them sometimes but when we come up against a side like Stoke we didn't have the ambition or cleverness to overcome them, be it the players or Pearson.
