notnow john Posted 27 January 2015 Posted 27 January 2015 As I understood the criteria,as applying to footballers whose nationality was non EU, A player would only qualify if they had played seventy five percent of their countries competitive fixtures in the last two years. If they failed to achieve this the application went to a subjective appeal. Can anyone explain why the Brazilian, Paulista, who has no international caps has been granted a permit immediately, no appeal necessary. Can't just be the influence of the signing club, surely.

I thought the work permit was granted on appeal? They would just say its unlikely at his age he would have made the 75% national caps criteria but would in the future and that he would come under the gifted talents bracket that the FA want to accept. Although a good player would probably fit the 75% at 24.
Ric Flair Posted 27 January 2015 Posted 27 January 2015 Whether it was granted before or after an appeal I think what bemuses me is the timescale. It was done within 24-48 hours from when Arsenal agreed to sign him, yet ours took a week pretty much.
Guest MattP Posted 27 January 2015 Posted 27 January 2015 The league you come from plays a part in the immediate appeal. No player who has been a regular in La Liga has failed to get a permit.
Finnegan Posted 27 January 2015 Posted 27 January 2015 When Chelsea signed Willian, they argued that Brazil produced an incredibly high volume of exceptional footballers and that if he was from almost any other nation he'd be an established international. I would imagine a similar argument was made here. When you think how many top footballers Brazil exports, it's overall population and that only twenty odd will be regular internationals at a time then I think that's fair. Personally I think the whole ruling is stupid. Any footballer coming to a top flight club is going to be earning substantial money, contributing hugely to the economy and will be immensely skilled labour in their field

Mind you he was Portuguese I think.
Finnegan Posted 27 January 2015 Posted 27 January 2015 Okay he wasn't skilled labour but he still paid taxes to the state and spent his money here (presumably)

Finnegan Posted 27 January 2015 Posted 27 January 2015 Narh, personally I think we should let everyone in, tear down the borders, abolish all currency, melt down all tools of war, all accept our natural polysexuality and hold hands in the rainbow. Edit: and execute all Forest fans.

BHAFC Braders Posted 27 January 2015 Posted 27 January 2015 See , but we're signing Kayal from Celtic yet the Work permit is currently 6 days and counting , the system really does need looking at.
Lamby Posted 27 January 2015 Posted 27 January 2015 Only the big clubs get their work permits accepted. Us small clubs don't.
Donut Posted 27 January 2015 Posted 27 January 2015 Football topics end up becoming about UKIP. Booooooooring.

Donut Posted 27 January 2015 Posted 27 January 2015 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_Bola%C3%B1oswhen we were still in the Prem. You were in the Premiership years ago when this guy would have been in his early 20s, and I dont know the ranking Costa Rica had at that time although theyve been world cup reugulars so it would have been in the 70 if the rules were the same. So if Liverpool had gone ahead you think theyd have got him?

Soar Fox Posted 27 January 2015 Posted 27 January 2015 Why would anyone want to sign for Charlton Athletic? They even sound like a boring, shitty club.
