Well the forth official standing next to them looks to me to be telling McArthur to calm down, and if this was really as serious as everyone is making out surely that forth official would have included it the ref's match report and Pearson would be up on a FA charge.

Precisely. 4th Official a couple of feet away,saw and must have heard everything At the time he only gestured to them to calm down at the end of the scuffle.The Ref. was not involved or took no action,presumably in light of 4th officials input.
