Jordan Posted 8 April 2008 Posted 8 April 2008 The 2008 Stanley Cup Playoffs begin tomorrow... LET'S GO, RANGERS! I've got four tickets for tomorrow night's New Jersey Devils vs. New York Rangers playoff opener at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ... my friends and I will be part of the army of Rangers fans that will be crossing the Hudson River into what is really enemy territory, although there's a good chance Rangers fans will be the majority. Rangers fans are buying more and more tickets for Joisey's home games while all of precious playoff tickets for Madison Square Garden already have owners. Bure Richter

MC Prussian Posted 9 April 2008 Posted 9 April 2008 Glad to see the Pens made the playoffs again. Crosby & Malkin - pure dynamite! I only hope Sid the Kid stays healthy.

Jordan Posted 9 April 2008 Posted 9 April 2008 Nuff said! bure still fookin legend tho Rangers will struggle in post season IMHO They need Bure back I'm sure the Rangers' medical staff would love to see Pavel Bure again and catch up on all the intimate moments they had during Pasha's short stay in New York. Bure was a hell of a player and should be in the Hockey Hall of Fame, but his fragile knee fell apart not long after he was dealt to the Rangers and that trade epitomized the Blueshirts' consistent and costly failure from '97 to '04. If there were a Vodka Drinking Hall of Fame, he'd be elected on the first ballot. I think the Rangers--both in style of play and personnel--are evenly matched with the Devils and all of the stats and the results between the two teams this season (Rangers won 7 and lost one in a shootout, but all wins were close and three of their wins were in OT or shootout). When they met in the playoffs in 2006, the Devils were on fire and the Rangers were falling apart (lost five in a row to end the season to slip to 6th, Henrik Lundqvist was injured and suffering from migraines and Jaromir Jagr hurt his shoulder in Game One because he was acting like a retard). Everybody knew the Rangers were a dead team skating. It's a lot different this time around--the Rangers are a chic pick amongst the pundits to be the Eastern Conference's surprise team--and I think the Blueshirts will squeeze out a hard-fought win in six games and retake top-dog status in the NY metro area... but they might not have enough gas in their tank to make a big run beyond the first round. The three-way rivalry between the Rangers, Devils and New York Islanders is unique in North American sports and IMO the hatred between the organizations and fans is very much underrated outside of the NY metro area and the hockey world. I have all day to get ready for the game tonight. LGR.

Jordan Posted 10 April 2008 Posted 10 April 2008 Well said! I'm just awaiting a season where the Blackhawks actually get into the playoffs Been shit ever since I decided they were my team! Fookin 15 years and fook all You won't have to wait long. With some promising young players--particularly forwards Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews--and the legendary Denis Savard as head coach, the 'hawks have the potential to be a good team in the coming years. They narrowly missed out on the playoffs this year after a miserable season in 2006/07 and I think they'll show more improvement next season, too. I had a great time in and around the Prudential Center, or "The Rock," last night. Rangers take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven! --Back-and-forth "Let's go, Rangers" and "Let's go, Devils" chants at the bar before the game. --I'd never been to the new Prudential Center, and it's a beautiful arena (too nice for Newark and the Devils!) --It looked like the crowd was 2/3 Devils fans, 1/3 Rangers, but it sounded the other way around. --The first two periods were typically tense, but the Rangers broke it open in the third for a 4-1 win in Game One. --We chanted for Scott Gomez, who spent his entire career in Jersey before bolting across the Hudson River to sign with the rival Rangers, all game long to taunt the Devils fans who boo him every time he touches the puck. This was made even better by Gomez having a great game and a big hand in the first three goals. --All of the Devils fans leaving when Sean Avery made it 3-1 with less than three minutes to go was a great sight. --Rangers fans took over Newark's Penn Station after the game. The whole building was ringing with chants and our "goal song"*. It all continued throughout the short train ride back to Manhattan's Penn Station, the next-door neighbor of Madison Square Garden, "The World's Most Famous Arena" and the home of the NEW YORK RANGERS. I think the conductors decided it just wasn't worth it to check tickets, and they were right. It was ridiculous on the trains. This is about the closest it gets in the U.S. to an English local derby atmosphere. (*- The "words" to the goal song are, WHOA-OH-OOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHH! WHOA-OH-OOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHH! WHOA-OH-OOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHH! WHOA-OH-OOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHH! HEY! HEY! HEY, HEY, HEY! HEY! HEY! HEY, HEY, HEY! HEY! HEY! HEY, HEY, HEY! HEY! HEY! HEY, HEY, HEY! )
