  2. That's very true. But I still think the centres of Milan and Paris are much cleaner and smarter than London, and as I said above I think a lot of that is down to the explosion in takeaways and deliveries we've seen in Britain. You don't really see bottles, packets and scraps of food strewn across the pavements as much as you do here.
  3. Yeah that looked really nasty.
  4. nice
  5. UEFA don't heat their balls....
  6. Another thing is in Europe you have these big bins that small businesses like restaurants chuck their waste into (I'm sure there is a term for this, you can tell I'm not an expert on refuse collection), but here a lot of stuff is left out on the street for foxes and birds to get into. Combine that with wind and rain and you have disgusting messes all over the pavement. Totally agree about the weather. Every summer London manages to trick me into thinking I want to stay another year...
  7. Paris and Rome I found much better. Maybe because they don't have the amount of takeaways we have in London which I think is one of the biggest contributors. Maybe I'm imagining it but I feel like it has got much worse in the last 2 ish year, but sure it's not unique to here.
  8. Really don't like this attitude which is quite prevalent in England - there is nothing we can do about it because people are just like that. Can we not hold society to high standards? As the post you're replying to says, it compares badly to most if not all big European cities.

  10. Would be a fun thread. Guess the age and background of the poster from the stuff they post.
  11. Interesting how many people believe that the crisis of confidence in 21st century liberal democracy is mostly down to fake news on social media, and not people noticing things about modern society which they don't like.
  12. yeah alright Lineker
  13. Sounds like a deputy chairman of the Russian communist party purged in 1938.
  14. British fans who use the American pronunciation of certain words like 'dynasty' are very weird. Like I understand using the terms themselves in the context of US Football but why change the pron. Very cringey behaviour.
  15. I remember Millwall 2004. All the way to the final without playing anyone from the top tier, if I remember correctly. All the more reason to take it seriously.
  16. I suppose we'll see. France and Germany aren't the countries I'm worried about at the moment but I guess for a lot of Anglos old fears die hard.
  17. Decent chance reform are the biggest party, and a lot of that will be down to the post brexit immigration regime. So quite ironic Farage might benefit. It's not a bold statement. Even if the far right get in in those countries, which in Germany I don't think is that likely, they will not threaten their allies' territorial integrity as America has done.
  18. Me too. We have this debate on here every season I think but I will never understand people who claim not to care about the cup. Especially when you're having a shit season. Always crap to get knocked out before the 5th round and see smaller clubs progressing and generating a buzz.
  19. Maybe the point we all miss is that a lot of this stuff isn't 'American' anymore, it's global. They've exported it to the whole world. So much art and entertainment resembles Americana now, it's inevitable sport will go the same way. And we're most vulnerable because we unfortunately speak the same language.
  20. As others have said, there were quite a few American-style gimmicks that were brought in in the early 90s - half time interviews, even half time (or pre game?) entertainment for some early Sky PL games. It was mostly ridiculed and obviously dropped. But I feel the current times are ripe for such innovations and I'm sure elite football games will ever more closely resemble American sport broadcasts in the future.
  21. I don't think the French or Germans are going to vote any time soon for someone who wants to annex their neighbours. We've mostly got over that in Europe.
  22. On the subject of American football I think this is probably the first super bowl I couldn't bring myself to watch. I think because the ugliness of America is so much on show at the moment, and they are making it very clear they are happy to **** over the rest of the world to achieve their goals (which they always did, but not this brashly). I did not want to subject myself to 4 hours of celebrations of Americana or more of their stupid culture wars. Absolutely contemptible culture and the fact British youths are so determined to immerse themselves in it bodes ill for the future.
  23. Interestingly I can get up and function better in the morning after one or two bottles of beer the night before. But over the whole day my mood and energy levels are slightly worse.
