  1. Yes that's a fair point. Leicester are my team though and it is so miserable watching them at the moment I can't justify parting with the kind of money required to travel to and attend a game. If we get relegated and push for promotion next season, even just push for the playoffs, I'll go to more. I realise for some people that's antithetical to being a real football fan but as I said for me it's a reflection of English football and transport costing what it does. I suppose my broader point is that the whole King Power match day experience, as bad as it is, isn't the biggest problem I have. If I could spend 18 quid on a ticket and 10 quid on a train I'd be there every week no matter how bad it was.
  2. To be fair it costs me and a lot of other non season ticket holders money to get tickets, travel etc. And I'm honestly not going to spend nearly 100 pounds to watch us play like shit when I could use that time and money to e.g. go to the opera or have a great meal out. KPFC issues or not. This is one reason I can't embrace non league like a lot of people on here. It's crap value. At National and even National League North/South level it is often still around 20 pounds or over and the football and stadium is rubbish. In other countries, e.g. Italy which I know well, you can often get tickets at least in the second tier, sometimes even Serie A, for around 20 euros. I still go and see Palermo a couple of times a season and if you don't mind being in the curva you can get a ticket for like 18 euros. The problem with English football is not so much the 'experience', it's just that it's terrible value, especially when combined with UK rail transport.
  3. Still plenty of photographers, including professionals, who shoot on film. I feel like it's seen a bit of a renaissance in recent years. Most people switched to digital in the early 2000s but many, including myself, realised they prefer the aesthetics and process of analogue photography. Very easy and cheap to get a film camera on ebay and a few rolls of film online or in pretty much any photography shop in a big city.
  4. I still shoot on 35mm and the place I get them developed has seen a significant increase in customers over the last few years, so all is not lost. The anticipation before seeing the photos is definitely something I like more about analogue photography.

  6. lmao it was literally a Nazi salute. You can argue he didn't really know what he was doing (I wouldn't) but it's a Nazi salute. When a child copies an adult by sticking their middle finger up, they're still sticking their middle finger up. It's not just an "awkward movement"
  7. Yes it was an element, but it was nationalism that helped end empire as well. I think MAGA contains a little of both strands - the we the chosen people must conquer Mars imperialism of Musk and the free-trade and open-borders are bad for the American people nationalism of Bannon. I think that tension has existed in most imperial metropoles before America.
  8. I'm a little confused by what you're trying to say here but the 'sentiment' on the rise globally, which I think you're referring to, is a lot closer to the rise in nationalism and fascism of the early 20th century, which is not the sentiment behind European empires. Those two things were very often in opposition. The liberal interventionism of Clinton and Bush era America was arguably a lot closer to 19th/20th century European empires in my opinion.
  9. I somehow doubt GB is going to colonise 1/3 of the whole world even if people here don't acknowledge the fact it once happened.
  10. It's a cultural cringe that white Anglo-Saxons have developed in recent years.
  11. Feel like this is an issue with modern society as much as anything. People find it difficult to concentrate on stuff and are addicted to constantly snacking on crap food. It's the future of football crowds.
  12. He's not on the spectrum or a fascist, he's just part British. Sometimes this comes out at inappropriate moments
  13. In the Hong Kong gig he's going to apologise for us handing them over to China.

  15. Least racist South African
  16. I think to most Christians they're just weird and cultish. But then we're talking about a nation whose founding ethos involves venerating people "fleeing religious persecution" who probably thought Christmas was popish superstition.
  17. As an Anglo-Prot every time some fundamentalist American freak invokes the Lord's name I understand how Muslims feel being associated with the Taliban. Not even joking, it offends me on quite a number of levels.
  18. God elected the Stuarts. George III was a usurper.
  19. Probably beyond that in Britain anyway. The POTUS has far more power than George III although I suppose their argument will be that nobody elected George III.
  20. Yeah I never understand why it's seen as a Gotcha when someone who is pro immigration reform in the UK moves abroad themselves. Especially to the Gulf States who generally treat low skilled immigrants as less than human. Weird kind of English parochialism.

  22. quite a catch
  23. would be funny if they tied it with a TD but missed the extra point
  24. Rob Edwards has done really well to convince people he's an 'admirable coach'
  25. Everton. Imagine convincing yourself you're a huge club but the only thing you ever achieve is just staying up because everybody else is crap
