I have noticed a lot of people don't really read posts before they hit quote. They see a word or phrase and react to it before trying to understand what the person is arguing. I'm probably guilty of that too.

Keep going man. Let it out.

There are anti Catholic marches in Glasgow every year

There is no 'white community' and therefore no white religious/community leaders in the UK.

Glad you're enjoying it. Your comment reminds me of a passage in the Leopard I half remember when the Don takes two English naval officers up to his terrace in the middle of one sweltering summer day. The English say something along the lines of "you have this beautiful island and incredible weather yet nothing works", to which the Don replies "why do you think nothing works?!".

Their spiritual leader is Tommy Robinson. I'm not saying they're not dangerous. We've seen this weekend that they are. But they are stupider and less organized than most of the far right in Europe, in my opinion.
-
A lot of people in this country are just alcoholic yobs. You see the destruction every weekend. We are an aggressive and often a very racist society that likes smashing stuff. Don't know whether it's always been like this but as I posted the other there is a greater tolerance for this kind of thing here than anywhere I've been. At the same time there's increasing poverty, poor education and now ethnic grievances. Not an ideal mix. It's like 19th century Odessa

The British far right are without doubt the stupidest in Europe. I suppose we should be thankful.
-
No, I don't think your average Brit can do 20 squats

I chose 'Leytonstone, 2011' and it gave me 0 points?
-
I suspect this is the same reason the Russian and Chinese governments give for clamping down on free speech.
-
Do people really want this? A government that is unable to fix societal problems will happily make it harder for us to talk about them.
-
A lot, maybe even most of these rioters operate on Facebook under their own names. The British government though seems keen to clamp down on social media anonymity and I'm sure they'll use this as an excuse.

Oh yeah definitely I agree that the violence these last few days is worse than anything I've seen. I was talking about racism "not being acceptable" when we were growing up which I disagree with. But certainly this is something that feels quite new and extremely disturbing.
-
Maybe that's true to some extent. But I remember David Blunkett's crusade against the asylum seekers "swamping" the UK, and the attacks on EU migrants in the early years of the coalition government. I think maybe it seemed better in the past exactly because people accepted it more.

Doesn't seem to like Germans.

I reckon I'm about the same age as you and I don't think this is really true.
-
Sorry to hear that. In a way I always found Sicilian driving a bit less worrying because although there's loads of beeping, people generally don't get as aggressive or abusive as they can do here. Hope you're enjoying the holiday anyway.

What I've seen the last couple of days reminds me of things I've read about 20th century pogroms.
-
Ironic this is happening during the Olympics considering until a few weeks ago British media was full of the rise of the NF in France and the potential for violent protests to disrupt the games.

I need to move where you live

Could do without the deliveroo cyclists with a death wish too
