  1. One of the best history books I've read. Draws on an incredible range of primary sources to create a really vivid picture of life in the late 18th early 20th century eastern Mediterranean.
  2. The thing about Eco's 14 features of fascism is that some of them can, admittedly with some effort, be applied to almost any political party or movement. Such as: - Appeal to social frustration. β€œone of the most typical features of the historical fascism was the appeal to a frustrated middle class, a class suffering from an economic crisis or feelings of political humiliation, and frightened by the pressure of lower social groups" - The cult of action for action’s sale. β€œAction being beautiful in itself, it must be taken before, or without, any previous reflection. Thinking is a form of emasculation.”
  3. Pretty close. Anyone get it right?
  4. I won the West Norfolk boys badminton championship in that building. Finally a historic moment to match that one.

  6. Parliamentary politics is so much more interesting than presidential elections and I'm glad this was shown once again on 4th of July of all days.
  7. Norfolk now represented by 5 different parties I think. Has to be some kind of record. Perfect microcosm too - Labour in the towns, Cons on the fringes of the Fens, Lib Dems in High Norfolk, Greens in the Waveney Valley, and Reform in the old port.
  8. Holy shit SW Norfolk I was not familiar with your game
  9. as someone in said constituency she's awful as a local MP and everyone hates her, they just automatically vote conservative

  12. Mordaunt only 25% chance of winning. Middle aged foxestalkers on suicide watch
  13. Yeah I'm a little sceptical but we'll see
  14. please just make it stop
  15. There is something endearing and a bit sad about Sunak. Slightly boss-eyed, possibly autistic, likes sandwiches. I actually dislike him less the more I see of him.

So we all chose the same place for number 1
  22. Partly this but probably more material conditions for young people in 21st century UK.
  23. Think I read somewhere last few days that Reform are 2nd favourite amongst late teens early 20s in this country.
  24. Enjoyed Matterface's 'Young Turks Run Free' comment at the end, skillfully linking a movement that initiated genocides against Christians in the Near East with the 1976 Candi Staton smash hit.
