  1. we've moved beyond needing to justify league one as a 'trophy'. That shit is for the likes of Reading and Coventry.
  2. Yes but can we not count championship and league one as trophies please.
  3. If Tottenham had won there would've been a lot of pressure on Villa, who are out of form and hadn't qualified for the European Cup in like 40 years. Obviously beating Man City was always quite unlikely but to actively want to lose is absurd when you still have a decent-ish chance of CL football.
  4. The weirdest thing is they were still in with a shot of Champions League football with an easy final game. As I posted yesterday I think a lot of is sour grapes. They know they've totally imploded this season, and they know their 'Spursy' reputation, so they're pretending to be happy they lost. Weirdos.
  5. Worst thing about these tournaments are the England fans who don't usually watch football. As snobbish as that sounds.
  6. I think it's still great for kids. My nephew is now the same age as I was during Euro 96 and his excitement is on the same level. At the same time now as I become more disillusioned with the domestic game I enjoy sitting down and watching International or European games where the result is less predictable and you can watch some quality players you don't get to see as much. If anything, less hype over England makes it slightly more enjoyable.
  7. Honestly the cringiest, most fragile fanbase in the land
  8. I realise we're all scarred from the last decade and a half but they're not going to win the next election. People are worried that if they get sick they won't be able to get treatment. People can't afford groceries or medicine for their kids. And the government can't get out of it by promising to leave the EU (already tried it) or cut immigration (not happening). They're toast. They will spend the next few months salting the earth for the incoming Labour government.
  9. Tottenham fans wanted to win and try and get CL football. Any of them pretending they're happy they lost is sour grapes.
  10. he's notorious for those kind of puns
  11. It's Duran. Duran. Given a view to a kill, he found the bottom corner. Hungry. Like. The Wolf! It's no ordinary world in this Premier League panoply of performances.
  12. A lot of English football fandom has become quite performative as the game becomes richer and more detached from the fans. Bigging up rivalries is a way of doing that; I suppose it gives off a vibe of authenticity when you know your club has become an aloof multi million pound corporation playing in a soulless tourist attraction stadium. It's like those people on twitter who laugh at Fulham fans being posh while their team plays in a half empty stadium named after a betting company.
  13. Their death in a car crash is one of my earliest memories. Was on holiday in Cornwall when my father woke me up with the news. Actually that could be Diana, I always get those two car crashes mixed up.
  14. I feel football rivalries are a bit forced. I've seen a couple of people online responding to Piers Morgan in a Spurs shirt with "wouldn't wear a Forest short if you paid me". Like I would wear it down the pub all night if someone promised to buy me the beers.
  15. I remember when I moved to Palermo and after about two weeks fell quite badly sick. When I phoned the manager of the EFL school I was working with and started listing my symptoms he immediately cut me off with "have you been drinking the tap water?"
  16. It's not a true trip to Sicily unless someone is nauseous on the journey home.
  17. Where did you get to in the end for food and drink? I'm always interested to hear about any new places I haven't been to in PA.
  18. Yes, ticking him off. Went to see Worcester cathedral a couple of months ago. Would love to explore Herefordshire and the whole Welsh marches, looks like quite a magical place.
  19. Going to Gloucestershire next week. Spending a couple of nights in a cottage in the countryside but also making sure to do Gloucester cathedral and Tewkesbury Abbey. Any more off the beaten tracks suggestions, or recommendations of nice pubs, would be much appreciated.
  20. I was coming here to post exactly that - getting hairy for Cagliari unfortunately. But if they beat fellow strugglers Sassuolo on Sunday, they're safe.
  21. I think we'd do better if we tried to incorporate some of our musical heritage into the songs. Like a Welsh choir, or Scottish bagpipes, or some kind of English folk or even indie elements. Is gay sex in a dilapidated swimming pool changing room representative of Britain? (don't answer this question)
  22. Oops wrong thread I may be drunk👍
  23. At least no mosquitoes will get him in that
  24. Oh dear
  25. More Ghostbusters
