Background is always relevant to crime. There are usually aspects of a person's upbringing that point to why a crime has been committed. As I wrote above, these guys are from a country and culture where sexual abuse including against minors is, by all accounts, quite normalized compared to here. They've also grown up in a very violent and unstable environment. If someone from an English council estate who'd experienced sexual abuse as a child then committed a similar crime as an adult, obviously their background would be relevant.

Afghanistan is an extreme example though. To put it as mildly as I can, what we see as serious sexual assault is normalised there.

I read it in the Guardian and it made me angry. Can't believe the Guardian would try and radicalize me like that!

Afghanistan is unfortunately an extremely backward country with a population that has mostly grown up in a very brutal and dehumanising environment. I can't say I am filled with joy that so many Afghan men are moving to Britain, I believe there are two other stories similar to the one above that have been released today. Or maybe the Daily Mail is just working its magic on me.

I imagine also the median age in the UK is not insignificantly higher than 40-50 years ago which would suggest lower crime numbers.

Definitely feels more lived in and more like a coherent city with character to me which is probably a lot to do with it being more centrally planned. There are many places in London I love but I find it a bit weird. Many of its inhabitants and our elected officials clearly want it to be the ultimate global city and at times that works but often it just feels a bit soulless and lacking identity now. Even half the big sporting events are now American. I'm sure many French would complain that process has probably happened to some extent in Paris but it's nowhere near the same. Somehow I was surprised to find good French restaurants full of locals in the middle of their capital city. Imagine that!

Worth going just for the food. North West European cuisine is some of the best in the world, don't let generation Z spicy slop merchants convince you otherwise. In Paris you regularly find dishes that sound or look like something a half decent English country pub would serve, but elevated by superior ingredients and techniques. Also one of the best big cities for nightlife I've been to. Still loads of very laid back places frequented by locals and students even in the touristy parts. Far better than London in that sense.

No it doesn't but the rationale seems to be that it's politically not feasible which seems weird considering it's just a customs union, which 99.9% of Brits had never given a moment's thought to before the Brexit wars of 2019

Don't really know what the rationale is. Scottish women's cup matches don't even have scorers, attendances etc so not sure why they're put so high, above la Liga for example
