  1. I think one thing all of us on this thread can agree is that Harry Windsor is a big girl
  2. I probably shouldn't speak for other people but I think a lot of the resistance to immigration is as much to do with demographic and cultural change as with economic and infrastructure concerns. Immigration sceptics should probably be more honest about that.
  3. It's funny that in America and across the Anglosphere the French have a reputation of being effete weaklings prone to surrender and defeat when they are probably among the most militarily successful nations in history.
  4. I have to say as a Europhile who was living in Sofia during the panic over hordes of Bulgarians and Romanians and as someone with family and friends from Eastern Europe, it is very, very funny that the English continue to be so discombobulated by rising numbers of immigrants that they are threatening to vote for the far right and wreck the country economically and socially even more than it has been wrecked already. That's after we heard for years "if we don't get hard Brexit it risks the far right getting into power". 'Global Britain' not going down that well it seems
  5. Forest still on to match our league finish in 21/22. Absolute fairy tale. Mega jel of their fanbase.
  6. Sup by Northern Monk. One of the better session pales I've had recently. Lightly hopped and flavoursome for a 3.4% beer. Reminded me a bit of Everard's Beacon Hill.
  7. It is a great deal because of their political beliefs but also part of the moral panic here that societal problems are caused by problematic language in media and pop culture

  9. Fair point. I don't think I've experienced a crowd turning a game or 'sucking a ball in' quite like I've seen in some English stadia (although my experience with European grounds is pretty much only in Italy, never been to Germany). In my experience atmospheres can be as flat there as they often are here. We've lost a lot but perhaps people are exaggerating the problems with the culture here, I tend to lean towards what lcfc278 posted.
  10. It is. But it's also petty rule following culture. Like today I needed the toilet in a big shopping centre and I very politely asked the woman in the Costa I was right next to if I could use their one, a woman who could surely tell from my dress, pronunciation and general demeanour that I am not some kind of pee spraying, toilet roll unravelling oik. But no, customers only, and I had the choice of either buying one of their crap coffees, trekking at least ten minutes in this heat to the sole public toilets in an adjacent building and back again (assuming her directions were correct) or keeping it in and rejoining my girlfriend to look at clothes before we moved anyway to the next shop which was closer to said toilet. To which I chose the final option, meaning I of course ended up the bad guy because I wasn't concentrating on what my girlfriend was showing me.
  11. M&S catching so many strays on foxestalk these days
  12. Don't know if it's boring or just very self conscious, and cynical almost to the point of nihilism. Strongly believing in something is seen as cringey, feigned indifference is our default setting. As somebody else pointed out, our favourite chant is "what the ****ing hell is that", directed at an away end of Europeans passionately supporting their team.
  13. Bure Gold at the Euston Tap.
  14. Toilets for customer use only. Inhumane.
  15. More pubs should do Chemical Attack Tuesdays
  16. Your comment intrigued me so I looked up the pub on google and the first result I got was 'Angry gran glassed woman who asked her to wear a face mask'

  18. Town itself isn't that great but it's a good base to explore Istria and some of the islands. Or you could take a boat straight away and stay a few days on Cres, Rab or Losinj. Will be pretty peaceful in September I think.
  19. Pity because I would love to see him run off celebrating like 2006 after a last minute equaliser against Oxford to keep us in with a mathematic chance of avoiding relegation to division 3
  20. Would absolutely love Grosso but doubt he'd come
