Lowe is quite interesting. Don't share many of his politics but he seems intelligent and importantly seems to have gone into politics to actually change things. In addition religion acts as a unifying force beyond national boundaries as well as binding us to and helping us understand our past. Those things are lacking in modern England.

So probably the difference is much less than I made out in my post but I think Flowers was really underrated. I think he might have been the best shot stopper England had in that era but Seaman was perhaps more consistent and was elevated by the back four he played with. Yeah Elliott was great. You couldn't design a better centre half. Really elevated us from a surprise package when we first got promoted to a top half premier League team, one that probably could've been top 6 with a deeper squad
