Cutting your losses on a player you don't want really ought to be more permissible and productive for PSR purposes. Surely that's more sustainable than continuing to pay them and then losing them for nothing?

Reading that I initially thought their grand strategy was to delay the process enough so that the deduction couldn't be imposed this season, do enough to stay up and then swallow the points deduction next season when we had more chance of staying up. However this doesn't really explain why they hired Cooper instead of springing for a decent manager.

You rarely actually need 40 points to stay up.

The season before last all three promoted teams stayed up.

On reflection the medal table definitely needs to be ranked by overall haul rather than by golds.
