Vesty is a player that I think with the right manager playing to his strengths could be a good squad player for us for the next 12 months, but 3 ****ing years. THREE YEARS

Agree on Hurzeler, part of me does want to roll the dice. I guess the deductions will be important for this sort of manager, If we are expecting -10 or something then go for it, roll the dice and give him a free hit on relegation and rebuilding. I'd imagine if we only expect -6 or something then you'd think with the right appointment we could theoretically stay up, and that's when unproven, largely inexperienced foreign managers become a big gamble. But I really do like Hurzeler and his system would catch a fair few out I'd imagine!

Hopefully we got a good chunk of change for the 6 staff members that have left alongside him, especially if we are going to go in for someone like Corberan who would likely want to bring some staff with him also, could get expensive buying out staff as well as the manager.

I think @Bluearmyfox28's post above regarding Corberan probably explains my position well. To add to his post, our flanks are basically our strongest position at the moment. Ricardo overlapping Fatawu and potentially Kristiansen (who left on loan specifically because he wouldn't be used as a traditional overlapping fullback) back from his loan at Bologna overlapping Mavididi could give us 2 really dangerous flanks during games. Let's face it, I don't think any of us are really "excited" by the mangers we are currently linked with as all of them have points to prove, for me personally Corberan represents one of the better options available but everyone sees things differently.

I think the important context for Corberan is that yes he does have a "style" but he's very pragmatic, he usually sets up in a 4-2-3-1, but his formations change throughout the game where players take up different roles and positions to counter the opponent. This season he has also played a 3-5-2, a 4-4-2, a 3-4-3 and a 5-4-1. Corberan does have a preferred playing style, but he's proven at West Brom that he plays to beat the opposition and get the best out of the squad he has, rather than setting up solely to play "his way" like Enzo did. I'd rather have a pragmatic Corberan than a static manager wedded to a system with the season we face.

Off the top of my head I can think of Ligue 1, Eridivisie and Primeira Liga, which would put Super Lig 8th, then there’s a debate over whether the championship is a harder league overall, the exact order of the other main 3 I’m not sure as it stands now. Honestly felt like Puel ended up being a half decent signing for us and he gets a lot of stick. I agree with many that it felt like we didn't have a plan or a direction when we signed him, but in the end he took over an ageing squad that literally could only play 1 style of football, and by the time he left he had signed Maddison, Ricardo, Tielemans (loan but we were in talks of perm) Soyuncu and Evans and had transitioned us into a team that could play on the counter but could also hold the ball (often until we fell asleep) I think Puel left the club in a far stronger position than the one he inherited, and Rodgers came in and benefitted from that ground work.

I was talking more about how the club is run from a financial perspective, not signing players on time, "lying" to managers about the financial situation, and keeping Rodgers for another 12 months when it was clear he was destroying the club from the inside. Giving monumental contracts to very average players etc etc. When it comes to managers I think there were solid cases for each one that we have signed at the time of signing them, I hope we get the next one right because we need it desperately.

No, we just need to get lucky on the manager and hope to god they can pull us through on the pitch whilst the circus upstairs keeps rolling on. Sadly I'm worried that only makes it worse, if a manager comes in and succeeds, Top and Rudkin get to keep patting themselves on the back.

The way we are run at the moment, we could tell Carlos Corberan just to turn up to the club, tell Rudkin that Top signed him, tell Top that Rudkin signed him and he'd probably get away with it with 6 months.

Will be interesting to see what sort of Salary he gets there, I'm sure there will be something else behind the scenes

Yeah for me it's just a personal one, I like him as I've always semi followed Wednesday as a 2nd club and I loved him when he was there, I would have serious reservations but he's the sort of manager who would likely stick around if we went down and has experience of this country. I'd still take Corberan first.

I do agree with you on that it would have been a hell of a task to convince him. Just thought his standards were a bit higher than the Turkish league to be honest. Surely he could have taken over at a Portuguese/Dutch club and been in a similar situation?

Yeah I never actually thought he would come here, I'm just surprised he's dropped down to the Super Liga. He could go to Netherlands or back to Portugal for example.

Yeah I get that and obviously the Champions league is a big draw, but the Super Lig is something like the 8th or 9th best league in Europe, surely he could go to Portugal or Netherlands and be in the same position? I don't think Jose was a serious suggestion, but if he's going to the 9th league in the European pyramid just to get Championship football and manage Fred surely the Premier League would be a bigger prospect?

A manager I've always liked since he was at Wednesday is Carlos Carvalhal, Had a bit of a rough couple of jobs recently, but did a good job at Wednesday with a nutcase chairman who used to interfere in the dressing room and demand certain players are played, went to Swansea in December and almost kept them up having taken over in a perilous position. Went to Rio Ave and led them to Europa League qualification with their best-ever points tally. Went to Braga and lost the league cup final to Sporting, but won the Taca de Portugal beating Benfica 2-0 in the final (beat Porto also) Finished 4th in the league and reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League beating Monaco on the way (same season we got knocked into the Europa Conference) I'm not sure he would be right for us, but would be an interesting one no doubt.

As a manager, you always back yourself, and you don't turn down a bigger club just incase you can't meet the board expectations, he overachieved with the squad/money he had. The delusions of the WBA board are irrelevant to us either way. I think if we think staying up will be hard, we need someone who would be willing to go down with us and build a project, we might struggle to find a manager with prem experience who would be willing to do that, Carlos' track record in the Championship is great. If anything, the delusions of WBA board is good for us.

WBA fans refer to him as "King Carlos" which is a very rare thing to see. According to Transfermarkt he made 9 signings since arriving about 18 months ago and has spent a grand total of £0 (all loans +1 free), WBA fans think he did a phenomenal job. The main problem is that we would need to go for someone inexperienced or unproven at the top level in that case, since someone like Moyes likely wouldn’t want to manage in the championship. It makes it far more likely we end up with someone from the championship or 2nd division elsewhere I’d imagine, but if it’s someone like Corberan I’d be happy enough to give him a free hit providing it looks like we are building something.

If he has a good relationship with some people at the club (ignoring the misleading of finances) we may be able to tap into a few cheap loans.

Yeah it puts us on the back foot regardless. I’d imagine if the deduction decision takes too long we will either have to gamble and spend a little bit more money and risk it, or basically build a younger, cheaper squad and just factor relegation into our plans. Ideally we just need them to slap us with the deduction now so we can properly plan, you’d think that would be the priority of the league too so we have a proper chance to right the ship. If they take too long, we risk going down because of lack of time to plan and execute which would only exacerbate the problem.

This being dragged out doesn’t really affect us unless it goes on right into pre season. I feel like we will likely have to wait until the points deductions are announced before we get the manager we want. I can’t see a serious manager like Potter taking us on without knowing what deductions we are facing. Unless it’s a young manager like Corberan who would be willing to go down with us and build a project in the Championship I think we need to hold our lines.
