I suppose the big difference between Everton and us in this respect is context. They've only ever spent 4 seasons outside the top flight and are currently in a relegation battle every year and haven't won anything since 1995, whereas we are a 1st-2nd tier yoyo club who've seen our team lift seven trophies - of varying importance - since they last won one. The majority of our matchgoing fans remember us being relegated to the third tier, we won the top flight 8 years ago and won the FA Cup a few years ago, under this ownership, for the first time in our history. Of course we're less angry.

I don't think anyone's mocking them? It's not that long ago we were securing promotion to the top flight with a win that helped consign them to the third tier. Even more recently we cruised to the League One title while they were finishing in the bottom half. We've only ever been out of the top two tiers for one season, they've spent the vast majority of their history in the 3rd. It feels quite bleak that our best player is a Brighton loanee, at the same time you can acknowledge that they've done an incredible job at that football club and deserve all the success they're getting. It's not mocking, it's just a natural reaction to being overtaken by a club that we've had a financial and reputational advantage over for basically the history of both clubs.
