  1. Biles is utterly incredible on the big stage.
  2. That explains things then. Good job us laymen aren't judges.
  3. Yeah, seriously. Shades of Torvill and Dean in 1994 about it all. Guess it's just the rub with sports that don't have a totally cut and dried scoring system and rely on what can be subjective judging.
  4. I'm not entirely sure what performance the judges were watching to only give Whitehouse sixth there.
  5. So it proved - Havers did damn well but lost 7-4, and then Lim easily saw off all other comers to win gold in the final.
  6. Would be a massive surprise tbh, 99.9% of the time the womens Korean archery specialists only lose to each other. They're fearsome.
  7. With the added extra of additional floods, droughts and other extreme weather around the world ready to drive resource scarcity and further conflict. Fun, huh?
  8. Bit cruel to stick a mic in her face straight after too tbh.
  9. Would it be cruel to say Shriever bottled that?
  10. Get him running against Le Pen tbh.
  11. 800 mill is still a hell of a chunk of change though - would be 5 years EBITDA spending from them on that and nothing else. I'm hopeful that they'll get the money through other means and this project will still run, but I'm hoping that cental government will still look to back tech projects like this where at all (really at all) possible.
  12. Serious nerves of steel to not hit a single fence across all three runs in the final.
  13. Another gold for GB in the equestrian! Made no mistakes.
  14. Yeah, the trap may well be obvious, but thanks to my own vested interest I think it should have been ignored tbh. These projects so end up paying for themselves, both financially and societally.
  15. Fair to say, but she walks the walk as well as talks the talk. If someone can back up their big ego, then fair enough imo.
  16. Yep, pulling the plug on practically any tech investment project like this one is a mistake. They almost always return on their investments, often several times over. A misstep from the new government.
  17. Absolutely. But the UK has to try and to do what it can to get others to follow, because if it doesn't failure will be the only possible outcome.
  18. Yeah, the above is about it really. The only thing I'll add is that the responses do have to be tailored to the issue and local solutions are often better, but if we really want to preserve the current quality of life as it is (in terms of actually not dying of easily curable infections, temperature regulated living and working spaces, internet porn and all that) and bring that quality to more parts of the world, then it will be one world or no world.
  19. Certainly the best male singles player for GB in 80 years. Thanks, Andy. Enjoy your retirement.
  20. To echo @SecretPro: "I'm white English and most often refer to my self as British. Borders aren't really my thing (they are after all just a political/economic construct and increasingly a dividing line) and I mostly consider myself a person of planet Earth. I'm not really arsed if I'm English, British, Swedish or Yiddish to be honest." Amen to that. And to add to it, such thought may well be a matter of survival, not just moral choice.
  21. But "lacking in talent" and "lazy" and a "quitter", apparently. Outstanding performance on the biggest stage.
  22. And will vote for policy enforcing that effect. In on topic news, could indeed be a canoeing gold coming GBs way!
  23. Piss poor start cost them a better medal there, but not a bad result. How many more rowing events are there? That and the cycling might be good chances to boost the medal count more.
  24. I think that is a matter for the moderation team rather than me, we post here at their sufferance. I wouldn't have removed it, but I'm not them and I respect their decision either way - they have difficult ones to make often.
  25. And purely for the record, the person I was conversing with no longer has the right to reply on this thread.
