  1. Dropped catch by Brook, two lbw appeals and then a taken catch by Brook all in seven balls. It's all happening.
  2. Need to keep the pressure on here, one good partnership might decide the match.
  3. There were studies, and predictions made, about both in that era. The dark irony is that quite often the same people who don't think there's a problem with the rising global average temperature right now also don't think there was a problem with the ozone layer thinning back then, simply because unified action solved the problem so smartly they didn't actually feel much in the way of consequences. The same, unfortunately, will not be true of the consequences of this problem unless that unified action is taken.
  4. Think the blow messed with Conway's concentration there.
  5. Bloody hell, Archer doesn't half zero in on the body and head when his blood is up.
  6. It gets to us all tbf.
  7. Well, bowling them out for under 200 it has to be, then.
  8. Damn. Bradman himself isn't keeping that one out.
  9. Perhaps because in some cases, the pain and pleasure reactions in the brain get crossed over? Just goes to show the evolutionary process is far from perfect. See also; giraffes.
  10. Just goes to show good cricket knowledge doesn't necessarily translate to knowledge in other sport
  11. 124 runs adrift at lunch. Reckon the over/under on the 4th innings chase is around 275, so hopefully Brook and company can give the bowlers at least something to bowl at to keep it below that.
  12. No disagreement there, it's very easy for things to become entrenched. Unfortunately, such polarisation is all too common in the world we live in today. Though perhaps the online world isn't a true reflection of real life interaction.
  13. A problem is that while the moderates (on all sides) are trying to make their voices heard, the extremes are the ones actually setting the agenda, so it doesn't really matter what the moderates think or say. Also, given the subject matter, it's pretty damn difficult to objectively define what such compassing means anyway, when it means different things to different people.
  14. Firstly, appreciate the compliment, mon ami. Secondly, in addition to what has been suggested above already, I would recommend the YouTube channels Astrum and Kurzgesagt and also the series Solar System with Brian Cox on iplayer. Both of these are excellent resources for knowing more about our immediate neighbourhood and what we've done to explore it. There are lots of other science communication resources out there too, so if you need more, please feel free to ask.
  15. These two need to steady the ship, aim for at least parity in the first innings.
  16. Terrestrial perspective, and just what our position in our vast visible universe is, is something I wish that more people truly grasped.
  17. Great final showdown between the two Lukes again yesterday.

    The Weather

I know I did. And quite a few of them have mentioned the point wasn't to be like them. It was Never Again. In any aspect.

    The Weather

All comes down to the humidity of the air. Arid air (like in deserts) cannot hold the heat of the sand or the sun at nighttime, so it radiates away pretty quickly. And I'm sure those good men did what they did so that people could live in a more comfortable world where other people wouldn't have to suffer, in the heat or otherwise, as they did.
  20. On the general topic being discussed, this is still an unpopular opinion: Oh, and it's responsible for a truly massive level of unnecessary death and suffering.
