  1. More general rugby than Tigers per se, but a look at the financial woes in the Premiership right now: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/67070361 Don't suppose someone like @Finnegan has some more detailed insight on the nature of the problem and possible solutions?
  2. True. It's their third SF too.
  3. Science Communication and Public Engagement.
  4. https://www.espncricinfo.com/records/highest-partnership-for-the-first-wicket-283609 365, would you believe! I reckon they'll have to bat through to come close to that.
  5. My Masters dissertation getting a passing mark and the final step of my degree being completed.
  6. Yeah, would broadly agree. He plays hard and clearly has quite an ego when on the field, but that goes with the territory with someone in his position.
  7. Yep, I do understand why they speak as they do. I just think it's all bullshit in the name of realpolitik and perhaps we all can and should be doing better than that. Perhaps however it is all just The Wire writ large and real and that the institutions that make up such things are irreversibly corrupt, and that not only is it impossible to reform them, but to try to reform them is to be crushed by the system.
  8. Both sides who know how to win when it really matters. It'll be close.
  9. All about the $,£ and rupees my friend, sadly. Bangladesh off to a real flier here, but then we saw that with Afghanistan yesterday too, so we'll see.
  10. I totally agree with the nature of the choice being offered to the Israelis. However, assuming that their intent to minimise civilian casualties is true in all circumstances (a point of debate in itself), my point would be that they are still trying to have their cake and eat it as it were by claiming no responsibility whatsoever for the innocent lives they take and saying that the violations of international law they inflict (of which there have been some) are not their responsibility either. It's incredibly dishonest and distasteful in face of the death and suffering being inflicted. At least have the honesty to say "yes, we're killing children. Yes, we're monsters doing monstrous things, but we're doing it in the act of neutralising a bigger monster". That would be honest, rather than the bollocks they are giving out right now... which the establishment in most Western nations and most of the UK print media appears to have swallowed hook line and sinker, because geopolitics.
  11. Personally, I think it's the lie of it that annoys me the most. Like guys, please stop trying to Win Friends And Influence People by spouting platitudes about "minimising civilian casualties" or "following international law" when it's patently obvious neither is actually happening. At least have the basic honesty of purpose to own what you're doing and let people see that.
  12. Something like that, I'm sure. Gotta "win" and that collateral damage is regrettable but necessary and all that.
  13. "A short while ago in New York, the US vetoed a UN Security Council draft resolution calling for humanitarian pauses in Gaza. Put forward by Brazil, the text also condemned "the heinous terrorist attacks by Hamas"; called for the release of hostages and urged all parties to comply with their obligations under international law. Speaking after Joe Biden's visit to Israel today, United States Ambassador Linda Thomas Greenfield said Americans believe "diplomacy has to play out". The United States has exercised its veto dozens of times in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. This time, the US ambassador also said the country was disappointed the resolution made no mention of Israel's right to self-defence, a view shared by the UK, which abstained in the vote." ..............really?
  14. Yep, but an inevitable corollary of that is that there will be scepticism - justified scepticism - of evidence presented by either side in this conflict because they both have very, very good reason to subvert the truth to suit their own ends. That's just something that should be accepted, not criticised, as it is simply is true.
  15. Fair points both. Honestly, I think a lot of it comes down to the source, too. One side or the other presenting even what appears to be hardcore evidence may be looked on sceptically, as both have reasons to lie and misinform on this matter. But having that information verified and presented by a trustworthy third party, that would mean more.
  16. Speaking purely for myself, debris that can be tied to an explosive device or rocket used by non-Israeli sources, and (this is the important part) verified by a third party with no established ties to either side. In fact, any third part empirical verification of a similar type would likely do.
  17. Well, given how shit they've been at all three of them at various times in their history, clearly not giving a fvck about all three at the same time.
  18. https://www.space.com/nasa-parker-solar-probe-fastest-man-made-object-breaks-record The NASA Parker Solar Probe has become the fastest human-made object ever recorded — again. On Sept. 27, the probe reached a blistering 394,736 mph/ (635,266 km/h) as it swooped close to the sun's surface, thanks to a little gravity assistance from a close flyby of Venus on Aug. 21. Just for the record, that's about 0.06% of the speed of light.
  19. I think they're certainly up there, and if England don't show well I'd love them to win it. Also on a similar topic, only one country has ever won football, rugby and cricket World Cups - in fact only one has ever gone to or beyond the quarterfinals of all three.
  20. Still very much conjecture and needing more information rather than drawing a conclusion, but it's good to see a detailed analysis of events without much bias.
  21. Speaking personally, I've never seen any utility in booing during the course of a match in terms of making a player or team play better and so it's mostly just self-gratification to me, but at the same time it sure as hell isn't up to Maguire to say who "real fans" are or aren't.
  22. Perhaps Reuters/Associated Press are closest?
  23. And likewise the other way, usually on bigger media outlets (looking at you, UK print media). There's a glut of misinformation coming from all sides here. Which makes it very difficult for the Average Joe trying to make sense of it all while being pressured to pick a side in a conflict where both are treating the death of innocent people as secondary to their objectives.
  24. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-67142161 More than 20,000 people in the UK have now been approached covertly online by Chinese spies, the head of MI5 said. It comes amid a new warning to tens of thousands of British businesses of the risk of having their innovation stolen. Ken McCallum was speaking to the BBC at an unprecedented public appearance of the security chiefs of the Five Eyes alliance in California. The newest front in the realpolitik spy game.
