Should There Be Play-offs in the Football League?
nnfox replied to StanSP's topic in Leicester City Forum
I'd want to expand it further than this, but in a similar way... 3rd and 4th Play Off semi. 5 - 8 Play off QF. Anyone in the top half have something to play for right to the end. -
I think Jeremy Hunt hinted at an October election in the press a week or so ago. Nothing official though.

January 28th is the latest a GE can take place, but there has to be 25 working days in the lead up. Given that would encompass the festive period, it's highly unlikely it will be that late. I would think October would be sensible. All the MPs will be back after summer recess in September so can get going on it then. Sunak will want to wait as long as possible. Interest rates possibly falling in the summer, some nice weather and maybe a scandal or two involving Labour MPs might soften the public enough to not leave the Tories facing complete obliteration. It's a damage limitation exercise, everyone knows he/they will be moving out of 10 Downing Street.

That's not quite right. Maybe after the 80th minute, which is still good, but as the game enters the 90th minute and beyond, there have been 13 games with goals. They've scored 8 and conceded 7. And in fact, they'd be a point better off if there was no injury time at all. Most of their injury time goals actually didn't materially affect the outcome.

I'm still optimistic that we'll get the results we need. The Bristol performance was poor, too many sloppy mistakes, but some recent results haven't reflected performances. It's clear for me that Enzo needs to either get the team playing his system in a way where we can raise the intensity when needed instead of one pace throughout, regardless of score, or he needs a clear plan B when Plan A doesn't work. Our results have been appalling recently but with our quality that can't continue. From a maths point of view, we have a game in hand over the two above us. We're just 1 point behind Leeds and 2 behind Ipswich, plus our goal difference is better than Ipswich. The fanbase here is concerned for good reason, but people saying we won't win another game this season are way off. We will, and I think we'll do just enough to get over the line in the top 2.

Sloppy.

Please refrain from allowing the truth to ruin a good conspiracy. This is the internet. Thanks.

100% this. The league isn't going to be decided today regardless of results. The top four will still have to collectively play 35 games between now and the end of the season - plenty of room for mis-steps and unexpected results.

Christ! Yesterday was pretty sweet: We were heading into the business end of the season ahead of every other team in the league with an FA Cup quarter final to play. This evening I have read the last 5 pages of this thread and even though we haven't kicked a ball and the situation is exactly the same as yesterday, I have literally given up on this season, resigned myself to another season in the Championship, without a manager and I find myself looking for odds on us being relegated to League 1 next season!

Please win tomorrow!

Not sure that Kate can simply be fired.

https://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/wanted Start here. Get two or three valuations at least, if you can. The Whisky Exchange will likely want to retail anything they'd buy, so would offer you less than what it's 'worth', but it'll give you a ball park figure and something to compare other valuations to. Good luck.

Ipswich's style is refreshing to watch. Portman Road isn't short on excitement for sure, but if they go up (and I hope they do), they're going to have to play differently otherwise they'll be smashed most weeks.

Here's the thing... The jury system is a well oiled, tried and tested system that is largely reliable but there are some imperfections. Realistically the best type of system might be some sort of mix and match. Sometimes 12 reasonable members of the public are fine. Sometimes a particularly complex case might benefit more from a bench of lay judges. By the time a case gets to trial by jury, the evidence gathered will have been scrutinised by police, CPS, prosecution barristers and defence barristers. After all of that, the CPS will believe that there is a realistic chance of prosecution. There are varying degrees of certainty but in the vast majority of cases, the CPS are happy to proceed, in fact, the evidence is often so obvious, it is questionable as to what the point of the jury is at all. The CPS would be seen to be a failure if cases were literally a coin toss and they had a 50% success rate - what a waste of public money and court time that would be. They don't just rock up to court and see how it goes. Some cases are particularly high profile or very complex/serious and CPS might be less sure of a (positive) outcome. These are the cases where a panel of qualified judges might be a better option in the interest of justice. Of course though, this may raise the issue if fairness of trial. A defendant who is innocent until proven guilty would probably (if actually correctly accused) be better off rolling the dice and taking their chances with a jury - so who gets to decide?

I watched the final episode and thought it was a real eye-opener for all the points you've raised. I'd caught a few minutes here and there of the other episodes and I was very much in the murder camp. My wife had seen the whole thing, she was in the murder camp too. It was really interesting viewing around how dominate personalities within the jury room can sway others around to their interpretation of what's been presented.

Hope he's good with a name like that.

Some people get into politics to genuinely make a difference, on both sides of the house. Unfortunately there are lots of aspects that would make the career appealing to people who put "making a difference" as a low priority. You get media exposure, power, influence and more. What's more of a pity, is that those that put themselves forward for life on the front benches are often of the personality type that seeks power and influence over anything else. The media scrutiny that comes with those positions I can imagine would put most sensible people off. I would be much happier with boring, sensible politicians, but in this social media driven, reality TV society that we live in, voted win prizes, and popularity, not sensible policy, wins votes.

Too many people getting scared in here. Jeez! This is the FA Cup 5th round. One game from quarter finals, two from Wembley. Bournemouth are an excellent opposition for us to get a measure of where we are. I say go for it. We should be able to play the reserves against QPR and still get a result. Two games where we have dominated the game and deserved wins but ended on the losing side and everyone here goes into meltdown and then says it's the players that don't have any bottle. Get a grip.

League 2 shaping up for a cracking finish. 3 points separate 7th (last play off spot) and 16th! All to play for.

The headline is more of a problem than the content. The physical and mental benefits of taking part in sports are well documented. This isn't about little Johnny being forced to play rugby for half an hour a week for about 6 weeks a year in the very controlled, risk assessed environment that is a Tuesday morning PE lesson, I think we're talking about kids that are really into rugby, that play at a decent level outside of school 2 or 3 times a week, or the kid who tried boxing as an 8 year old and loves it and goes to the local boxing gym twice a week. Increased exposure to the sport does increase the risk of brain injury and it is for (in conjunction with the child) the governing bodies of the sports, the local clubs and coaches and the parents responsibility to manage the risk. I dare say that there is room to improve in this area with all sports, but to suggest that allowing your son or daughter to play a sport that they love is child abuse is ridiculous and takes gravitas away from actual criminal child abuse.

Leicester vs Birmingham - FA Cup - Match Thread

Line up tells me everything thing I need to know about Enzo. Complete lack of ambition. You can't win anything with kids. -
If you are in a town or city, most networks are pretty good. In rural environments they can vary, if that's you then you should ask around or test different sims. I'm in a village and O2 is fine, Vodafone is patchy and EE/Three almost non existent, but that's not the same everywhere. EE are currently quite aggressively turning off 3G at the moment... Depending on your device/plan, this could have a bearing on your current experience. All networks are committed to switching off 3G by next year. Looks like Vodafone and EE will be first.
