  1. I’ve just come here to say this is ridiculous. When Ranieri went, I spent months defending it to ignorant fans of glory clubs-we were going down, we spent 3/4 of a season in relegation form, and he had to go. By contrast, 7 games into this campaign, after our first FA Cup and consecutive 5th places, in shit form with horrible injuries, we’re 13th. Evans comes back and we’re a different side. It’s not that Brendan is above criticism, because he is clearly getting a lot wrong tactically. But to discuss a sacking after such a short period, and such sustained success, is a parody of the Shit 6. The premise of the thread is pure ArsenalTV, and frankly we should be fvcking ashamed…
  2. Quality-I’ll check it out. How was the recording experience?
  3. Missed this totally-what were you on?
  4. You’re a generous soul.
  5. The club being unable to use apostrophes in an international message only compounds the awfulness.
  6. Fair enough if it’s the next level. But what about Man Utd?
  7. British democracy at the moment is worse than monarchy. One Etonian twat who’ll screw the country for short term financial gain, or a different Etonian twat who’ll etc while all his mates so on and what have you. My unpopular opinion: democracy can fvck off. It’s only at most a generation before the rich work out a way to game the whole system and get exactly the same benefits while telling you it’s your fault…
  8. Varane is excellent business-what they needed and a good price. Sancho is average business-they paid a lot and it’s an area they’re strong in, but in general a good signing. But Ronaldo will change their shape, stymie the likes of Greenwood and Rashford and cost them an absolute fortune for at most 18 months of return. And I think he’ll harm their identity and spirit for years to come.
  9. Good poll. Baffled by everyone who thinks United had the best window. I don’t think they even had a good window, after spaffing their whole inheritance on an ageing egomaniac. Their hands are tied for the next three windows now. If they’d got Ndidi (and thank God they didn’t), they’d have been much better off than they are with Ronaldo. Come at me in March when they’re out of all the cups and fighting for top 3…
  10. I like the optimism of this post. My general reaction is that there is so much information online that we generally can’t navigate the fact from the well-meaning misinformation from the malicious lies. This means people tend to read/discover/find things that reinforce their preconceptions, which makes it easier for the likes of Trump to get and stay in power, for antivax conspiracies to spread, and for a general splintering of society into more entrenched groups. It will be really interesting to see how the generations that grew up with the ubiquitous internet as just a fact of life adapt it and use it. At the moment, I guess I think it is just about a force for good, but don’t think it’s made anyone happier…
  11. I’d like to beat Spurs cos they piss me off. I’d like to hurt Villarreal.
  12. One step further: tolerating behaviour that is morally dubious, personally sabotaging or harmful to children because it’s in the name of religion is absurd. Secular lawmakers need to draw a line and apply it to everybody.
  13. Read this the other day, and thought “never seen this, must be HPF overstating something he saw once.” Now, everywhere I look, FT is riddled with it. I won’t forgive you for giving me another twitch…
  14. Ah, I was so fully behind you, but Sue Smith sounds like she heard about football 3 weeks ago, has binged a few series of MOTD and now just wants to spell the rules and simplest tactics out for people who have never seen the game before. She has sounded like that since 2003-it’s amazing she still gets work. But then so has Jonathan Pearce, so at least there’s equality for facile eejits. Vicki Sparks is as good as her male colleagues, though her accent is bizarre and sometimes off putting. Karen Carney is insightful, and a great co-commentator. Alex Scott is informed, eloquent and judges how much needs to be said on each point - I can’t think of a better pundit working today.
  15. I’m not spoiling for a fight with anyone, but I think Brendan would be a better manager if he didn’t try to sit on 1-0s as often as he does. Or if he’s going to try to sit on 1-0s, do it in a more thoughtful way than just piling more defenders onto the pitch. In so many ways Rodgers is brilliant, but this seems like such an obvious and persistent blind spot; I’m surprised @ARM1968 is taking such a kicking for saying it…
  16. It’s quotations isn’t it? 😛 Similar principle: does anyone else hate invite as a noun (rather than invitation) as much as I do?
  17. I’ve always wanted an actual unpopular opinion, and you’ve inspired me. I’m not bothered about poppadoms. I’d never order them on my own, and wouldn’t miss them. They just make me full for the bit I really want to eat, and they’re not tasty enough to be worth the painful overstuffing. Obviously I eat them when some geezer orders 4 each and smashes them in the middle of the table, but I’d rather have an actual starter, or a brinjal bhaji on the side than poppadoms to start.
  18. You’ve lost me…
  19. It’s the other way round. If the TV money wasn’t so huge, the clubs wouldn’t pay such astronomical fees and wages. Which they only really need to do to make sure they don’t miss out on next year’s TV money… Sky started the rot, and the only way to change it is not to pay…
  20. Signed. Amazed at your strength and bravery-keep going!
  21. Fixed this for you. But the first line is absolutely crucial…
  22. Technically that’s only half a circle… [it’s ok, I already know I’m a pedantic willy puller…]
  23. Me too. That’s why I prefer to celebrate the trophies and plaudits when they are here and not worry about our fall.
  24. “If you're asking who has been better in the transfer market, you could argue West Ham, and I think that's his point.” I really don’t think you could. They did have a great, largely injury-free season last year, but that’s not the same thing. We haven’t had a summer that didn’t make us stronger since 2016, and even then we signed Ndidi. It speaks well for your open mindedness, I’m just surprised to see a Leicester fan disagree.
  25. I could go for being Jay Rayner or Grace Dent-the best restaurants in the world falling flat when you walk in, and then a bit of other things/radio work when you fancy it. Or a Michelin inspector-that would be fine too…
