We see plenty of magic being used throughout the series that have all been attributed to certain deities. Greenseering and the Old Gods, resurrection and R'hollor, Faceless Men and the Many Faced God, Mirri Maz Dur, the Warlocks of Qarth and the Maesters of Old Town have cast a spell or two. Magic in a fantasy series is not proof of a certain religion in the world being right.

He firmly believes in the likely event of his death Shireen is the rightful heir and constantly reiterates to those who serve him they should fight for her claim if such would happen.

The books are obviously concluding with an R+L=J endgame, and with such a massive plot point the show will follow. I would have thought Griff's story would provide much needed backstory to Rhaegar (especially with Barristan being killed off) to introduce viewers to that storyline. You can't just spring R+L=J on an oblivious audience. I know we have had glimpses to pre-Roberts Rebellion Westeros on the show but I just think the shows producers are sacrificing arguably the most intriguing plot in the story for mediocre ones.

Because winning a game against 10 men on their holidays with 2 penalties is the best it gets for a Sunderland fan. They are obviously too good for us. Delusional isn't the word.

This is where it slows down in the books. The storylines of Lady Stoneheart and Young Griff provide new dimensions in the story in writing but it seems those have been cut out by the show's producers, so unless major deviations are made you will have to get used to it. Also if I were you I woundn't Google those two names.
