For me the biggest problem under McCullum is that if you lose your wicket it’s never “that’s not ok” or there’s no pressure on them if they do lose the wicket because they can simply say “well it’s only how I was told to play”. We could, and should’ve have been playing today as a warm up for the semi finals because we had both previous games in the palm of our hands. When bowling first we give teams 30 too many and we can’t seem see teams off like we used to when chasing. When batting first, it always seems like the chase for the opposition is a procession because they only seem to require 5 an over. From the outside looking in, especially in white ball there’s been a clique for too long and it’s seemed like a lot of mates being picked. Yeah the players playing can be destructive and win you games on their own but that’s not happened for a long time and because it’s been a very chilled, no pressure vibe, for me that loses some of that edge that you need to win games.
