This is so difficult. I intend this response as entirely conversational and friendly. I aim to never call anyone stupid for the choices they make. Inevitably, there will be a percentage of stupid people, but most of us are subject to either misinformation or disinformation to an extent, and a large difficulty is that if it's done effectively, by the time one realises it's been done it's already too late. Like others, my social media feeds aren't toxic, but I'm very aware that I cannot trust someone shouting 'free speech' whilst simultaneously censoring the free speech he happens not to like. When the rich and powerful start deciding what the truth is, we're all in trouble. I am very fond of lots of people who vote in a way I never could. Likewise, I know plenty of politically aligned folk who I cannot abide. I do get very frustrated at those that suck up so much nonsense willingly, but ultimately, I think it important (and I often have to remind myself) to pity the conned and condemn the conman. And of course, who's to say I'm right?

An awful lot of people are naive, and even more are obediently gullible.

You seem so certain.

The kind of person that makes absurd sweeping statements is the kind of person who....

Or maybe, he just types carelessly and is high on something like sugar.

And why do you think that?

What clamour?

Just looked at prices for the West Ham game. My God the game (and our club) is run by greedy bastards.

I used to live in Buxton, until 2020. The new hotel is indded highly impressive, and I know the Tapas restaurant you speak of. I still perform in Buxton sometimes and often go there to get water from the natural spring opposite the hotel. I'm glad it was good for your mental health - we all need that chance to switch off, even for just a little while.

If you've nothing to say but this, perhaps you might choose to spend your energies elsewhere.

As someone who most would refer to as left=leaning, I am sick to the teeth of every awful thing that the right do, or every lurch further right, or every egregious voting choice or every apology made for people like Donald existing, every justification for voting for someone clearly wanting to dismantle a democracy, being blamed on the left. 'It's not my fault I voted for a demagogue, I was forced into it by a terrible leftie'. I blame the conman, not the conned, but don't try to make excuses when you've been hooked.

Here's why. Because you infer meaning from stuff I just haven't said, and you're very provocative and also excellent at avoiding the point I frequently make to you. It's telling I am afraid, and you're not the first person in my life (or indeed on this forum) with the ability to just do massive mental gymnastics or avoid salient points in conversation.

I don't think he is a politician, in any traditional understanding of the word. He is an over-inflated, sociopathic, vengeful, manipulative bully, and sadly too many people get their rocks off on it.
