  1. Not sure why that wasn't penalised. Looked like a shoulder charge to me - no use of the arms. I'll have to see it again.
  2. Argentina's rolling maul is very impressive. Gallant defending, but there's that sheer brute force that the Pumas are renowned for.
  3. I like Rio Dyer.
  4. Great response. Pumas off guard. Smart rugby.
  5. I can sympathise with the first, but you can't really argue with the others.
  6. This has been a weakness in their game all tournament.
  7. Surely you should be sympathetic to both Palestinian and Jewish citizens caught in the middle of this hellish crossfire? With Hezbollah poised to be mobilised from the northern border of Israel with Lebanon, the toll in terms of innocent human lives could become even bloodier.
  8. It'll be worth the wait.

  10. Best New Signing Harry Winks Favourite Game Always relish an away win, and a clean sheet, so Norwich over Blackburn or Southampton. Most improved player You have to go with Wilf in all respects - particularly given the new and vastly different role that he as been asked to perform this season. Regarding Vestergaard, where he has tightened up his game I think it's not so much a case of improvement but coming into his own at the level we now find ourselves at. Most disappointing player It continues to be Daka for failing to make his mark. Really wanted him to settle into the team and be part of the rebuild. If Tom Cannon returns to training this year, I think Patson will be out in January. After an impressive season at this level with Coventry City, I was surprised that Callum Doyle failed to find his feet. You can see the promise and the potential. Wishing him a speedy recovery and still confident that he will have a part to play in our success this season. Also Danny Ward for continuing to be on our books. Player you want in Jan James McAtee. Weakest position Director of Football Predicted finish 1st King Power gripe That very, very shit former goal music played at FT. Continues to be a complete embarrassment and sends me sprinting away from the ground like Usain Bolt.
  11. Embarrassingly this has never occurred to me until someone pointed it out prior to the Lionesses recent penalty shoot out with Nigeria. You could tell that both teams worked on bottom or top corners of the net in training. I don't recall many going down the middle.
  12. Agree entirely, and I made this same point in the covers thread. Again, couldn't agree more. And even if it does have similar arrangement - at the very least put your own mark on it in terms of the performance. Sometimes though, it's superbly executed but completely loses the essence and the nuanced meanings/artistic intent of the original. Look no further than Jeff Buckley's obligatory rendition of 'Hallelujah' which may as well have been done by James Blunt. I really don't like Johnny Cash's cover of 'Hurt' at all though. Where I appreciate that Rick Rubin who introduced him to the song and cleverly reconceived/reimagined it to fit 'brand man in black', there are some songs that simply shouldn't be removed from their original context. It sits so perfectly as the culmination to the 'Downward Spiral' it is a crime to remove it. Upon first learning about it Trent Reznor was flattered but there was no indication that it would be recorded. He said it was this other person inhabiting his most personal song. Knowing where he was when he wrote it, what he was thinking about - the emotions, the circumstances and the shame. He said hearing it was like someone kissing your girlfriend and that it felt invasive. However, the moving video made it all fall into place for him and at that point, it made sense as a powerful piece of art. I think that the popularity and mainstream appeal of this particular cover was very much through the visual impact of the release as opposed to the cover itself.

  15. Avoid 'The Dark Side of the Moon Redux' like a sexually transmitted disease then. (See the Pink Floyd thread).
  16. Too preoccupied with my 'Premier Football backroom staff collectable card collection'...
  17. To return again to Iran. We know that Hamas cannot exist without Iranian backing and that they are sacrificial pawns in terms of the long game. As such, this attack is designed to bring down the full weight of the Israeli war machine on the Gaza Strip and in so doing provoke outrage and anger in the Arab world. Not only does this destabilise the region but it is also designed to deter Saudi Arabia from the proposed peace deal with Israel and alignment with the US. Dief has announced his intention to purge Israeli occupation whilst the Israeli army is on the cusp of mobilising a ground war. This could well open up conflict on multiple fronts with the Hezbollah drawn in following their artillery bombardment at the weekend from the north. At the centre of all this are the innocent civilian lives at stake.
  18. Now?
  19. Many years ago, someone played me 'Wings' and that was job done. Couldn't believe I'd overlooked and was ignorant of such a fine talent.
  20. Not necessarily. As I suggested on the 'Also in the News' thread, he knows full well that Israeli PMs do not long survive military debacles. Think Meir after the Yom Kippur war, Begin following the first Lebanon War and Olmert after the second. Netanyahu will already be searching for scapegoats and blaming his generals/Mossad for an appalling lack of intelligence. This was anything but a means to deliver some grand plan or nefarious scheme. I am certain that his was an attack orchestrated by Iran to destabilise the region in terms of the emergent alignment/interests between Riyadh and Washington focussed on Israel.
  21. The Teesside Troubadour. I've very rarely come across anyone that is familiar with his work. His discography isn't huge but he thrived as a live musician and raconteur - particularly in his second home, Australia. A wonderful talent and criminally overlooked by the majors. That didn't bother him in the slightest, he was happy in the world he created. Inspired by Freire's 'Pedagogy of the Oppressed' and as you suggest, hugely apposite and poignant in times such as these.
  22. I pray that it's fake. There are a great many of these that are subsequently debunked. However, the memory of the fate of Mohamed Abu Khdeir still looms large almost ten years later.
