  1. Good luck today mate. just north of where you are today and it's a windy one, hope it's behind you going up that hill. You've done the training so hopefully you'll hit your time.
  2. I'll be marshaling at this Raj, think I'll be on New Walk giving out abuse encouragement running up that hill
  3. Turned 60 this year so set myself some challenges which were all a first time of doing to keep the ticker going and myself generally fit In my 60th year, Started with an olympic distance triathlon earlier in the year Stratford half marathon in under two hours Coast 2 coast cycle ride Whitehaven to Tynemouth 157 miles over 4 days tho Chester marathon (yesterday) in 3.58. Had a plan to get sub 4 hours that surprisingly worked, did the first 4 miles at 9-9.30 minutes to regulate, then miles 5-18 between 8-8.45 minutes then the last 8 miles at 9-9.30. I'd like to thank electrolytes, high 5 gels and Naproxen for getting me through All I have left now is the Benidorm Half in November and going to try for a 1.45 or less.
  4. It should be 15 this week 22 next week on the plan, however i have a big bike ride next week so wanted to do the longest run this week. The last 3 weeks of My plan tapers 21, 13, then 8 the week before. Never known a full 21 the week before.
  5. Running 22m tomorrow which is the peak of my marathon training before I start to taper down. Anyone else doing the Chester marathon on Oct 5th?
  6. I use my saucony guide 18s for anything more than 8 miles and my saucony guide 15s for pace running which are slimmer design. Got fitted for both at leicester runner and will get the next pairs online. Gait analysis was 30 quid but free if buy the shoes. It's worth it as I wanted mizunos which were dearer but my feet landed a bit twisted when we played the footage back.
  7. Just entered the Chester marathon on Oct 5th, did a half a couple of weeks ago but hope i've left myself enough time to train.
  8. I have looked at my retirement plan and can go in 5 years and be comfortable. I am considering going in 6 years and reducing my working week to 4 days from August. Boss has agreed this and even suggested I take Friday one week and Monday the next so every other weekend I get a run of 4 days off. My doesn't work Fridays so I can play golf on the Mondays.
  9. When I play 18 holes I do feel it the next day to be fair and i never do 3 activities 3 days on the spin so it gives my body time to recover. Personally I'd get to running 10k without stopping then start looking at times they'll soon come down if you are running 2/3 times a week. When you do you might want to look to having an easy day the day before.
  10. Because there was uproar when the played the FA Cup final and prem games on the same day/time a few years back
  11. Have a good one Ric and good luck going for the PB, I'm marshaling this one in Sutton Cheney before you go up the gated Road into Bosworth. Let me know when passing if you need any bog roll
  12. Managed a PB for 5k yesterday at livingstone relays with a time of 21.44. Last year's time was 22.36.
  13. Lots going on Desford this weekend celebrating the 80th VE day. Our running club are doing a 80 mile VE day relay carrying a message dropped by the RAF falcons parachute team to Winston Churchill. Doing them in 2 mile laps, I'm down to do about 3 I think.
  14. Anyone running in the livingstone relays at Mallory park this Saturday?
  15. Favourite funny moment - the Eagle flap in front of the Palace fans after scoring Favourite goal - Liverpool volley, I was in block H about level with him so was lucky enough to have a great over view of the goal. Didnt celebrate straight away as I was mesmerised as to what I had just witnessed. Had to drive down to London for work after the match and talkshite were all over it.
  16. Yes Para it was Fusion then became coasters, spent many a night at both. Rocky Campbell ran the door and I went school with one of his kids. I used to give it the big un and tell my workmates it's alright lads I know the doorman
  17. Out in Thailand right now and the songkran festival is crazy. Lots of fun though. Went to the temple where vichai was cremated and as it was mainly closed a monk took pity on me and gave me quite the tour, he too was a leicester fan. I was even blessed while I was there. Very spiritual. I asked if he could pray for the team and he said with smile it was beyond that. He knew we drew the day before. Also said Vichai made large donations to the temple to aid teaching monks.
  18. Jeez that really is above next level, does your volunteering get you free entry to the next one
  19. Off to Thailand in a couple of weeks starting with 3 nights in Bangkok, can anyone recommend a rooftop bar to watch the sun go down? Thanks
  20. Sorry to hear that pal, hope you get back on it soon.
  21. Ashby 20 tomorrow, I've really gone for it in terms of prepping myself by tapering down the runs, carb loading etc and no alcohol for the last week. Also rested all day today and recovery shakes after. Like I've said before not after a time just want to see if I recover quicker than the Leicester half.
  22. We are hosting Braunstone park run tomorrow as it's our couch to 5k graduation run and they each be running with one of the Desford striders. There are around 25-30 of which more than half have never ran before. Last nights final session saw them running 30 minutes non stop so they have all come along way in 8 weeks where it started out as a 1 minute run then 3 minute walk x6. After tomorrow they get the option to then join our 6-10k programme of which most said they are keen. So if you do go pass any then please give them some encouragement. Thanks
  23. Got the Ashby 20 in two weeks which I'm doing as a part of my Stratford marathon training in April. Not planning on going for a time at Ashby just want to get round it and see what I have left in my legs after 20 miles. Most I've ran to date is 16 miles.
  24. We are into season 3 and loving it, what an actor Gary Oldman is and very funny too
  25. Only one wash needed if my Mrs does it, and get an xxl as it will be a medium by the time she's finished with it
