Bit off topic but all this talk of Leeds and Yorkshire has reminded me of this classic Hale & Pace sketch... -

The time when nuclear weapons were based in Leicestershire during the late 50s and early 60s. RAF Melton Mowbray hosted 3 flights of the Thor missile system as part of Project Emily. https://historyfare.co.uk/military-history/20-raf-melton-mowbray-nuclear-missile-base/ https://www.militaryhistories.co.uk/emily/base/melton RAF Melton Mowbray closed many years ago, now the Airfield industrial estate just to the south of the town. The runways made a good place to learn to drive back when I was learning in the early 90s. -

Match abandoned now. -
Her current seat is going anyway. Believe shes going for the new Rutland and Stamford seat. Melton is joining up with Syston in a new constituency

Fallen down a YouTube TV theme rabbit hole now.... Billy Connolly sings the theme to Super Gran and something a bit more serious, 'The Lonely Man' from the original Incredible Hulk TV show.

It was a brand new plane, it only entered service with Alaska in November last year. Got to be a quality issue with Boeing surely

I mentioned Paula Vennells in the 'absolute cvnts' thread last night after watching the final episode of Mr Bates Vs The Post Office. How she got a CBE for 'services to the Post Office' whilst being in charge during the biggest miscarriage of justice the country has seen is baffling. Great TV show though, well acted and has brought the topic to the masses. Hopefully people power and an election year may finally bring a bit of closure to their plight (probably doubtful though)

Yep. Although I vaguely knew about the Post Office IT scandal this programme has been a real eye-opener about how the PO and Fujitsu covered up their crap IT system and threw 100s of sub postmasters under the bus.

Paula Vennells, former CEO of the Post Office. If anyone has been watching Mr Bates Vs The Post Office over the last 4 nights on ITV I'm sure they'd agree.

Any excuse for this Mortimer classic..

Surprised it's not been renamed as Manchester East Midlands Airport. It's majority owned by 10 Greater Manchester borough councils as part of the Manchester Airports Group after all.

Its all down to if there is any available space to do the reversal on the mainline away from a station. Passenger trains get reversed almost exclusively at a station, like the one you mention where trains get diverted via Oakham and Corby, or just at a terminus station. I believe there is only one passenger service in the country that has to a reversal away from a station, and thats on a single track branch line in Cornwall (the line to Looe). No technical reason why it can't be done here, passenger trains have a cab at each end after all. All down to the timetable and line capacity through Leicester.

Not sure, I'm not a Syston local but do pass through fairly frequently. its the one near the mini roundabout. Was decent enough. EDIT : Its called Marine looking at it on Google maps.
