Ab Kettleby is on the A606 which runs from Melton to Nottingham and is quite a busy road. I'm from Melton and have family in the next village along from Ab Kettleby (Holwell). Nice countryside views although National Grid want to build high voltage pylons that will run close to Ab Kettleby so just something to be aware of if it gets the go-ahead. There is a doctors surgery in Long Clawson better try and get in there rather than Latham House in Melton.

The section of the line from Coalville to Burton I believe has been mothballed / marked as not in use due to extensive cable theft. It was hardly used by freight trains anyway. The bit from Coalville to Leicester still used by trains to service the quarries around Bardon. Sadly this just adds to the cost of recommissioning the line for passenger use in the future. Can't see it happening

About 18 arrivals into EMA tonight between midnight and 4am. Cargo is big business at EMA, helped by no night time curfew and the likes of DHL, UPS & Royal Mail having their air hubs on site. Rolls Royce use it to ship new engines out as well. Shame the airport or airlines can't make better use of the day. Wonder if a lack of rail link to the airport affects how passengers see the airport. (Can't really call East Midlands Parkway as an airport station.)
