Fundamentally, Reform are still a protest party (give Farage a chance, the rest are useless), a big noise on social media and a home for disgraced Tories or general social outcasts looking for a bandwagon to hitch to. After so many years in opposition and with so many MPs, I can't see Labour calling an election in a year's time, that would be political suicide and there's no precedent for it unless Starmer had a vote of no confidence.

The tax threshold rise will be what a lot of people would be voting, for as it would make such a big difference to so many, quite apart from the resentment that exists in paying tax. If they watered down or postponed pushing the tax threshold up, that would generate immediate disenchantment. Despite all the rhetoric about various issues, I think the key policy that actually got Trump elected was the removal of tax payable on tips and overtime, which really cut through to people struggling week-to-week. I still maintain though, that the best they can hope for with our political system is a coalition, unless the Tories effectively disappear.
