  1. Will miss Wolf Hall when its finished. Looking forward to King & Conqueror on BBC with James Norton as King Harold and Eddie Marsan as Edward The Confessor.
  2. Ha yes. Luckily never tempted by the real thing
  3. I find it hard to understand leaving before the end. If the journey was so bad that I would have consider leaving early I don't think I would go in the first place. I think that for some it is the lack of attention span.
  4. Another terrific episode of Wolf Hall last night
  5. He is a wonderful striker with a brilliant football brain
  6. Reminds me of where my Mum grew up in Hebburn
  7. Some people have a romantic view of the past as if it was Downton Abbey. I would guess quite a few of our families were in abject poverty back in early 1900s
  8. Agree about Spurs as about 6th. Last won the league in 1961 but back in the day a club that regularly won the F A or League Cup and the odd UEFA or Cup Winners Cup. As someone who remembers this the near 17 year wait for a trophy must seem an eternity for Spurs fans. Especially as over the last 25 years Chelsea have displaced them as the challengers to Arsenal as the best side in London
  9. Hubris
  10. Great point about VK trying to play the ball down the line rather than slowing play turning back inside. Not sure why but this particularly noticeable when a left back does it.England suffers from it too. Victor did very well last night.
  11. Seems Owen knows more about horses than other strikers
  12. Are there many pubs that have a saloon bar and public bar?
  13. Before I retired always bought a daily paper (usually The i) to read at lunchtime in the canteen. Always read back to front too. Starting with the sports pages first
  14. That little feint to go right then the finish with the left foot was excellent
  15. Seems a smaller club like Brentford can teach Man U, Liverpool, Spurs and West Ham about looking after fans. Reported the greedy clubs want to abandon concessions for seniors and children
  16. Apparently they met at a Hollywood restaurant. If you can find the clip it is a interesting and spooky recollection
  17. Did you see the Parkinson show when Alec Guinness recalled he told James Dean not to drive the car that he was killed in
  18. Man U bore festival. Not like they get much coverage. This show is always padded out for no real purpose
  19. Agree with this. I recall Man City under Joe Mercer and Malcolm Allison and they won the League in 1968 and unfortunately for us the FA Cup in 1969 So a big club when I was growing up.
  20. Certainly good films made by Powell and Pressburger. Even the conventional war movie The Battle of The River Plate was good. That film was of particular interest to me as I used to work with a chap who served in HMS Exeter in that battle.
  21. Yes I think so. Apparently Martin got to know Michael Powell just as his career took off. He loved A Matter of Life And Death. I think the film is very good and helped by having David Niven in the main lead. Also interesting that Powell often used same stable of actors in his films. Roger Livesey, Deborah Kerr, Anton Walbrook, Kathleen Byron and Marius Goring
  22. Did you catch the Martin Scorcese programme on the BBC about Powell and Pressburger. This film was among those featured
  23. Yes, anyone would think they were on a 10 match unbeaten run sitting 6 points clear at the top with a game in hand. Even then not sure they should be celebrating
  24. Perhaps they think another jaunt to Copenhagen has been earned
