I think it's beyond picking a specific position to be honest. Our CBs aren't good enough. Our fullbacks aren't good enough. We need a DM. We need wingers. We need a CF. Goalkeeper is the only position we are ok in.

What can you do? Neither him nor Soumare are defensive midfielders. So what does Winks offer? He can pass. Soumare can carry. Neither are much of a threat at the business end of the pitch so take your pick on which one misses out. But for who? Cos Wilf is the only DM we've got and he's not played as a proper DM since we last went down. The only way you help Winks is to give him a partner that does the dirty work. Someone physical who puts in tackles, breaks up play, intercepts and wins duels. But then why would you pair that player with Winks?

It'd be interesting to know when we made the offer. It looks like this one was out of our hands in that it's been delayed at their end and so there's nothing we could do about that. However if the offer only went in very recently then it's on us for leaving it too late in the first instance.
