Let's be fair here. He's stuck with Jakub who was anything but established before this season. He's integrating youth into training and he's rotated Page, Silko and Monga between matchday squads. You could even argue that keeping Hamza and Luke Thomas in and around the XI supports the vision of an academy 'production line'. He's had 12 competitive games and **** all pre season to assess the youth while working out which of the senior team he can trust and has us at the right end of the league while doing so.

We all know the squad needs an overhaul. There's a core of players who are rotten. They've been abysmal under Cooper, RvN and now Marti and yet it's Marti who needs to be sacked? The only criticism that sticks IMO is his avoidance of Page, Silko, Evans etc. but I'm not convinced that throwing them all in is the answer - Monga is a talent but incredibly inconsistent (which is reasonable) so would expect the same to happen with the others. Anyone who knows anything about leadership will know "culture eats strategy for breakfast". Cooper, RvN and Marti all have different strategies and tactics and have struggled to get a tune. This won't change until those ~10 contracts expire in the summer. To this point, it doesn't matter who the manager is before then. Axing Marti at this point makes zero sense. It'll set us back further and reminds these players that they don't need to try or adapt to a managers system because he'll just get sacked anyway. They won't suddenly become good if we bring in someone else.

Marti Cifuentes appointed new manager
LiliansLeftPeg replied to Tuna's topic in Leicester City Forum
A bit of both, I'd say. Some talent, some dross. Common to the whole playing squad, though, is a culture and mentality that stinks. These things take time to get right and are bought on by, among other things, changing managers every 6-12 months. -
Marti Cifuentes appointed new manager
LiliansLeftPeg replied to Tuna's topic in Leicester City Forum
He had barely any pre season. Sold more than we bought. He's been backed with 3 loans and 2 free goalkeepers. Genuinely stunned that people want him gone. Any manager we'd stand a chance of getting to replace him would struggle to do a better job this season. We're not getting relegated. We're not getting promoted. We've got a bulk of dross leaving in the summer that'll free up a significant part of the wage bill. We've got a pending points deduction too. This season was always going to be a mediocre showing and a write-off by Christmas. There's enough about Marti's system and history that suggests he'll be good enough to rebuild in the summer IMO. -
My Grandad was a Portsmouth fan and effectively ensured I was a Leicester fan - "it's where you were born. End of". We were chuffed when he came here and inspired countless conversation and competitions between us and the rest of the family. RIP Milan.

Ramsey's back today so he's likely to feature. As long as Winks and James stay as the midfield two throughout, we should be ok for another draw or a narrow win. Beyond that - our defense should limit and contain like they generally do and our attacking options will be blunter than a sponge wearing mittens.

Macquarie Loan - Cannon, McAteer, and Justin sales
LiliansLeftPeg replied to moore_94's topic in Leicester City Forum
Your last point cannot be overstated. Add that to other non-player expenditure and loss of income (including no shirt sponsor), I think we'll have a few more transfer windows of selling players and replacing with loans/frees ahead of us. I worry we're possibly pulling capital forward to cover lost wage revenue with this loan too - To this end, I'm glad we have players on high wages who are out of contract come July. -
Even by Skipp's standards, he was bad last night. He came on at 68 mins and gets booked at 73 for pulling Broadhead back after being turned. That type of foul, 5 minutes after coming on, is telling; he wasn't on Broadhead's level, he knew it and after getting booked he was too scared to make a tackle or get too close to anyone. Broadhead had only been on for 2 minutes himself so likely a tactical response to our changes. This would make Skipp a liability now too - other managers can target him as a weak point even when he's subbed on and 'fresh'. A loan to Turkey, Saudi or MLS cannot come soon enough for everyone involved.

Leicester 1 - 1 Wrexham POST MATCH
LiliansLeftPeg replied to SecretPro's topic in Leicester City Forum
The double change totally altered the game. We looked fine until Skipp came on. He gets himself booked after a few minutes and he goes absent thereafter - too spooked to make a challenge and too **** to do anything attacking. -
Give Patson his dues - No way Ayew makes that assist. Good call by Marti.
-
Narrow win for us I think. I'll go for a 1-0. I don't see anything radical happening when it comes to the starting eleven, tactics or subs so why wouldn't the game pan out like the rest have? We'll likely make Wrexham look crap to average, dominate play, and then bemoan our attacking options after the game.

WBA (a) 1-1 Leicester Post Match thread
LiliansLeftPeg replied to Muzzy_no7's topic in Leicester City Forum
Feel like I can copy/paste most of my reaction to the Cov game in here. Yes, we were incoherent, crap in places and looked blunt up front but that's exactly what we are and this is exceeding where most thought we'd be at this point, including myself. I didn't see us playing as a team, fighting and getting results like this. We're 3rd - I thought we'd be lower half by now. We'll likely drop off and wallow in mid table and I still expect us to finish the season outside the playoffs. The squad has a rotten core. Has done for 3+ years. Marti was given frees and loans in the summer to address it. He needs time. Overall, I'd say he's earning my patience. -
LCFC v Cov - Post Match Thread

Agreed, we're not going up this season with this attack. I'm ok with that - when the dross leave for free at the end of the summer and free up some of the wage bill, we'll get some more committed players in who suit Marti's system. -
Marti Cifuentes appointed new manager
LiliansLeftPeg replied to Tuna's topic in Leicester City Forum
The guy barely got a pre season, has a good number of absolute rotters in the squad and the only players he got this summer were on a free or loan. Anyone calling for Marti to leave at this point needs to get outside, go for a walk and give this guy some time. We're not going to be challenging the automatic spaces this season, we're about where we should be - arguably as well as we could expect - given the rot we've endured for 3+ years. -
Carranza for Ayew now, then Monga for Mav and BDCR for Soumaré after 15-20 mins. JJ drops back, BDCR in the 10. Comfortable 2-0 win in the end...

How Do We Make the King Power a Fortress Again?
LiliansLeftPeg replied to Ryanlcfc3's topic in Leicester City Forum
Turrets, cannon, drawbridge. Water from the Soar to make a moat. A few arrow loops in the family stand and L1 to keep the away fans on their toes. A Keep in the centre circle wouldn't be practical though. Planning permission probably the biggest blocker... I've not really thought this thru have I. -
Who was our worst manager and why?
LiliansLeftPeg replied to ramboacdc's topic in Leicester City Forum
Taylor, Ruud and then Levein. Taylor's signings and results were abysmal. He tore up a legacy. RvN had that stinking run of results and Levein was just beige and obsessed with signing mediocrity from Scotland and rated Elvis Hammond at seven figures. Bar that FA Cup performance where Mark de Vries turned into prime Adriano there was nothing to shout about under Levein. Other popular shouts were before my time. Cooper gets out of jail with me because he wasn't here long enough to take us down although he set us on the path with his signings. -
If he leaves next summer on a free, it'll cost us 1 year book value plus 1 year wages. If we sell him now for £1, it'll cost us 1 year book value but we recoup £1 and a year of wages. It's a smaller loss if we sell him for less than book value now or a bigger loss at the end of the season; both outcomes are in the same accounting/PSR period.
-
Amortisation concerns are for the birds, frankly. He goes next summer and he leaves for free anyway. Even £1 now would be offset against his book value. Get what we can, get him gone.

Bilal El Khannouss (Stuttgart loan, official)
LiliansLeftPeg replied to lcfc_forever's topic in Transfer Talk
No, that's over-simplifying amortisation and ignoring business capital and revenue. That £5m isn't going to recur next year and you need to pay the new player a wage too. Your scenario would give us £5m to spend on a player and £2m for a year on wages. Far more likely we cover prior years commitments to amortisation with the loan fee. Or pay Macquarie. -
Bilal El Khannouss (Stuttgart loan, official)
LiliansLeftPeg replied to lcfc_forever's topic in Transfer Talk
It'll still be sat on the balance sheet under 'income'. We need to plug a front-of-shirt sponsorship income gap too. Consider too our drop in income on match days and Macquarie loan interest. I think the biggest pinch is that our 3 year accountancy period ending this season will have 2 years in the Championship on it; £61mil loss instead of £105mil loss. £44mil income/savings to find on top of the reduced Championship revenues. It's bleak. That's why we're plugging revenue gaps (PL income) largely by selling capital assets (players). -

LiliansLeftPeg replied to lcfc_forever's topic in Transfer Talk
You need the player to want to do that, too. If it's as divided a dressing room as most of us think, the players mentioned probably just want to cut and run. -
It'll be a similar XI as yesterday but with a few tweaks (Patson to start, for example) and I expect this to continue until either a) the transfer window closes and we've not signed anyone or b) Marti gets backed and we sign some players he wants. I expect the board genuinely rate our squad as among the strongest in the league and don't see the need to bring in any players. Marti's best bet is to play that dross, hoping to prove it isn't. After that, he either leans on the academy more or plays the new signings (or, ideally, both) Kool-aid available on request in Peach, Tropical and Cola flavours.

Marti Cifuentes appointed new manager
LiliansLeftPeg replied to Tuna's topic in Leicester City Forum
Consider that Marti is persisting with dross like Soumare and playing Ayew as a 9 to prove a point to the board - "If you don't back me, this is what you get". I wouldn't be surprised if the board think the squad is good enough to compete because of the money they've spent on them (sunk cost fallacy, anyone?) and how well we did 2 years ago. While the window is open and there's a chance he gets his own players in, I'll not be drawing too many conclusions on Marti's team selections. -
Vardy's hat read "El Patron" ... "The Boss". You've cracked it. Player-manager role, surely...!
