Yup, thought the same. Fatawu kept running, the defender keeps pulling until Fatawu stumbles well inside the box. Then again Faes' was a definite pen for them, so evens out in a way. I thought they were particularly good at moving the ball sharply and quickly through the lines. Bellingham and Ekwah I thought were really good. Roberts had decent suçcess with his dribbles as well. As has been said, apart from their finishing they looked well drilled and purposeful with the ball.

Really good on the ball today. Not really convinced by him off the ball though. Much better than previous games though. Should've had a goal and an assist.
-
My stream is a bit behind and got distracted while typing. I think Mavididi has been good. He's not been given much to work with, but he's maintained possession, had a good couple of runs and has worked well off the ball too.
-
I mean Kels has been on a good scoring run. Well taken goal last week as well. Should've bagged a couple today admittedly.
-
About time Fatawu came off. I love his enthusiasm, work rate and unpredictability, but he does choose the difficult or wrong option a lot, especially since the break.
-
For a native Danish speaker he has great vocabulary and pronunciation! Honestly didn't see this turnaround coming, but fair dues. He's made himself vital to the team and long may it continue.
-
If he had been subbed, then we would maybe not have scored the third goal. You could say Enzo was vindicated leaving him on. Either way, it shows that players of that calibre aren't phased by poor performances and can still make key contributions in a game.
-
Didn't he also provide the delicious assist for the third goal?

xG only measures shots, so for example the cross first half that Vardy is so close to poking in to an empty net is not registered as a shot. Not even sure that xA picks up on that cross either as the pass wasn't received. So that, to me, looks like an example how stats miss out on vital details.

It is interesting to see how the team has thoroughly lost it's way. Whether this is down to the hangover from Qatar (which must have been a huge shock to the squad - they would, rightly, have expected to progress and maybe even make the latter stages of the tournament) or just a general decline in ability and belief is hard to say. Mæhle has gone seriously off the boil. Højbjerg and Eriksen blow hot and cold and Skov Olsen is also very inconsistent. Højlund is the only standout in an otherwise distinctly average Danish side. But as mentioned, it's the results that count. We do in general tend to perform better in tournaments when we've been written off before it even starts.

Haha, https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/67087203 This guy just flattened Man Utds £72m signing with a knee in the back. Wonder how long that articke remains on the website

Ultimately, the win is all that counts. We just had a fantastic Nations League and quali for the World Cup (scoring 3 goals per game on average and incidentally putting 12 past minnow Moldova, who now have a legitimate shot at qualifying.. the mind boggles), only to crash out pitifully in the group stages. The time we scraped by 2-1 in 2001 we went on to eliminate the defending World and European champions at the WC. Not sure we can place too much importance on the qualification campaign.

Was indirectly at fault for the goal too. Dropped a cross which led to a looped header that would've gone in if not expertly diverted by Kjær on the line. San Marino scored from the resulting corner.
-
You'd think the sequence leading to the corner would be a wakeup call. I seem to recall Denmark scraping by San Marino (or was it Malta?) at home with like a last minute winner (Sand?) in the early 2000's. Well done San Marino for scoring the goal even if Poulsen has now dashes their hopes. Can they do it again?

Kazakhstan, Luxembourg and Moldova have really stepped up big time. All three have been top tier whipping boys since ever, but my word they are putting in some huge performances. Kazakhstan especially impressing with their bravery to play out from the back and decent technical ability. Beating Denmark, Finland and NI (2x) while having narrow defeats against the former two and Slovenia, I didn't see coming. They have a very real chance of qualifying now - their last game against Slovenia could very well be a final. Moldova have an outside chance, but they will go through if they win their remaining two games against Albania (h) and Czechia (a), which is just wild really.

Would we have lived down a manager called Adolf Hütter though?

Surprisingly difficult to get perfect scores in this game.

Without wanting to be condescending, but I find that is a quite poor and unnuanced view you have. Did we mess up the golden opportunity we got from winning the Premier League? To some extent, yes, but it's been made to look we missed an open goal from half a yard out by some (*cough), when in reality it was always going to be deceptively difficult to replicate any success. Despite some wasted monies on transfers, the club still performed terrifically in the CL in the direct aftermath and arguably established itself as the 'best of the rest' for several seasons running, partly gatecrashing the Big 6 again and again - not to mention the elusive FA Cup. Could we have done more? Maybe, but I and many others recognise it's a completely different game/business at the top (no pun intended), and we did lack some nous (understandably), which was exacerbated on that fateful tragic day we lost Vichai. For every Slimani, Silva and Musa (who we recouped our outlay for no less), you had a Maguire, Fofana and Maddison, all of whom were sold for big profits. And yet we still kept performing up until 18-24 months ago. I never saw us exude BBB attitude. If anything I feel that your attitude is more a sign of segments of our fanbase being disenfranchised and bewildered by the massive tansformation the club has gone through in many aspects. Now, was last season not an abject failure? It absolutely was, and it's more than fair to scrutinise and criticise the club, staff and players, but making broad, revisionist, sweeping statements that largely ignore the consistent success we've had over the past decade is not helpful or remotely close to reality.

Our top scorer as well Such a shame for the lad, finally made his breakthrough and in great form anf now this. Get well quick, Kasey.

They were relentless and simply superb at closing down the spaces, but they were also very resistant to the counter press as well. At one point, I was trying to only observe their pressing patterns and their build-up play - just to try and compare the difference in efficacy. It's obvious they are one of, if not the, best teams doing this and they can choke all but the very best teams in the world when they play like that. For us, I feel it is more the build-up and playing through the press that we can learn from at this stage of our transformation. We had some excellent moments as well as some really good resilience in keeping the ball at times, but we need even better movement and positioning to be able to speed up play and get through such a press consistently. I'd argue our forward options, bar Akgün, were the 'weak' points yesterday, but we will rarely face such a good press again this season, so not sure many conclusions can be drawn from that.
-
We are impressive in the transition, but since the goal we've wasted some good openings. Casadei and Iheanacho guilty here. Yes, I wouldn't have thought he'd be a good fit, but he's been quietly efficient.
-
Casadei having a tough start to the game. Edit: how are we still ahead?!?!
-
A few of those moves are ending up with a low percentage ball (lofted cross) though. In those cases, I'd argue the build-up play is rather pointless. With positive glasses on, I suppose variety will give a split second more time & space as defenses will have to be reactive.

Same thing as was posted in a different thread - the penalty should've been retaken for infringement. Ironic that the ref spends stupid amounts of time reminding keeper and players where the lines are and then doesn't enforce it.
