The only commendation he can receive for his body of work is taking Southampton back to the premier league, which is no great shakes. When I hear people praising him for this I scratch my head, as though finishing 4th that year was a major success. The rest of his CV includes stinking the place out in a 2 team league in Scotland and leaving them 8th out of 10, leaving Southampton rock bottom of the premier league in total disarray and about to accrue the lowest points tally on record and lower midtable league 1 and championship finishes with MK Dons and Swansea.

To cover John Rudkins £2m a year salary

I think most on this forum would have exceeded his points tally in Scotland. 8th (9th?) in a 2 team league

Jurgen Klopp is a blue, he hates scousers

The squad he had was more than good enough to challenge for Europe and for trophies. He didnt sign any of them either, they were already here and maturing in to a great side. Thats why he left Celtic for us. We were on the up. He may not quite have taken us down, but we were going down under him as he consciously harnessed a toxic atmosphere despite having a top class team at his disposal, that should have been challenging for Europe again with midtable being a below average season. Relegation was inexplicable. He was well rewarded and pandered to, and should have had the emotional intelligence to compose himself and perhaps partake in some player trading (selling a star player) if he wanted new recruits to refresh the squad. Elite managers at clubs outside of the biggest clubs know that that is their remit, especially following a season when he splattered £60 odd million on utter garbage that didnt improve the squad, let alone the first 11.

Probably waiting for Potter to be eliminated with Sweden from the world cup, and then when he turns us down again in July we start our search.

Rhydian assistant manager?

Just a guess. Like others have said, RM would be a poor choice in many ways, so they might be putting it out there to then only employ someone else who is already out of work but doesn't quite generate the same furore.

Darren Ferguson incoming

They could have a decent sized fanbase so you are correct to an extent, but they'd never be as "big" a club as us. Our history, standing in the game, legendary players who have played for the club, core fanbase and worldwide recognition is world's apart from Bristol City. Even if they got their act together they'd just be another Brighton - very little history or standing in the game but with a decent fan base these days. Even then there would be a job on their hands to convince those from Weston-super-Mare and the like to change their allegiance from Manu Utd etc to Bristol City.

In the end I don't think anyone benefited financially from this apart from some ex Stoke and West Brom players.

Sean St Ledger was so key that season. His goals at Tottenham and Man City were absolutely priceless Dan Goslings goal to make it 2-2 on the night we won the title as well -
Im shocked we beat Chelsea in that final with him in charge. His teams usually crumble at the final hurdle, unless hes managing in a substandard league.

People who say the league cup isnt a major trophy (hello Rob tanner) are idiots. Every club in the football league enters. How can it not be.
-
Perhaps, but that being said their names on the trophy and ours isnt. No-one else will remember anything else.
-
Another english club with a European trophy. Brighton will win it next season as well. We had our chances under Rodgers and blew it

We became that when we incorporated clappers, and supposed adults suddenly thought that that was the way to create an atmosphere. -
What game you watching?

They thought the may bank holiday was in June? 😂 -
21 games unbeaten and beating Arsenal in the quarter finals of the FA cup and they still win nothing this season.....and start next season in the championship....and on -4 points....and probably sack their manager. Hilarious. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot and completely imploding. Ah well, at least its made them relevant for a couple of weeks.
-
The £60m player we lost for nothing scores for a midlands rival in a European final. Can't say I'm quite as ecstatic as a few other 😂
-
If Tottenham were relegated and acted in the exact same way southampton have, there is absolutely no way they would have been expelled from the play offs. A large fine would be the punishment or something unremarkable. Having said that its still funny, after how some of Southamptons fans behaved with our own debacle.

He did well clearing up the mess MON made the first time round
