What kind of country has a big war to throw off it's monarchial head of state, then gives it's new head of state all the powers of a monarch? In truth, the monarch of any European country has less power than the Potus, probably for at least 100 years or so. That one person can just ride roughshod over the judiciary system in a supposedly developed country is both bizarre and sickening.

Absolutely this. It's not what you probably want to hear, but there's definitely problems if she's using other people to do her dirty work and essentially lying about you. That doesn't bode well for a future relationship. The fact that she got her dad to do it suggests she expects other people to do things for her, daddy's little princess for whom nothing was too much - including chasing off suitors. You are too nice a guy mate, certainly one of the best on FT, so I can't imagine why you might be treated like this, but I have no doubt that you can find someone who will treat you much better, with the love and affection you deserve. Just finished reading The Last Chronicles of Thomas Covenant. I wasn't aware there was a 3rd Chronicles of Thomas Covenant (written some 20-30 years after the 2nd Chronicles), until I came across the first book (Runes of the Earth) in a charity shop. I wasn't disappointed. Stave, the Haruchai master, is one of my favourite literary characters, what a hero! If you like epic fantasy, this is a must.
