I think he’s a very good footballer who is improving and seems determined to succeed. I just have a hunch that he’ll turn out to be a good ‘un if we stick with him. I accept others may view him differently.

Personally I hope we do sign him.

Rob Tanner's piece in The Athletic suggests that we were trying to sign Sensi without anybody having to leave - it was just that the terms of that deal were still being batted back and forth between the lawyers late into deadline day and eventually time ran out. I don't think so. I don't think we ever intended to sell Dewsbury-Hall. Sensi was targeted because we already needed reinforcements in that part of the pitch, not because we anticipated selling our best player.

There were rumours at the time that Rudkin had lined up Scott Parker but Top overruled him at the last minute and picked Maresca after somebody strongly recommended him. I’ve no idea if this is true, but in the footage of Maresca’s first visit to Seagrave it does look like he and Rudkin had just met for the first time…

We probably agreed a certain structure in the belief that we would be selling another player in our squad and could therefore afford it. When that sale failed to materialize, we frantically tried to get Inter to renegotiate terms but by this point they were completely fed up with us and told us where to stick it. However we had to get Sensi over for the medical on the off chance that we'd be able to jettison Praet, Souttar or whoever. It didn't work out, but we'd looked equally as stupid if we did manage to flog somebody but couldn't sign Sensi because we hadn't moved in time...
