Just when you think that Top and Rudkin surely must have learned something by now. Just when you think that relegation to the third division and genuine financial peril must have focussed their minds, they outdo themselves and appoint the biggest joke in football. The O'Neill comparison does not stack up although many wanted him gone too. Russell Martin is not an up and coming manager on the way up.from the lower leagues like O'Neill was. He is not someone that has done well at his previous club and not someone you can afford to indulge or back with time. Martin has a CV, a body of work that is simply appalling. His tenure here is unfolding just as many of us feared. It is wholly predictable because his methods have been proven not to work and giving him more time will only cause more damage. If I were him, I'd pack it in and see if I could get my old job back on DIY SOS.

It's not just one game if football, it is five. Still a small sample size but cause for alarm because it is panning out exactly as we thought it would based on the his previous twenty odd games of football. You can't call this an outlier. In terms of managerial appointments, this is the nadir. There is nowhere left to go from Russell Martin. It can only get better, so that's a positive.

I am at the point now that I want us to lose. Partly because I enjoy moaning but mainly because the sooner we sack Martin the sooner we might be able to salvage this season. We have the squad to be challenging for promotion as a minimum but the managers tactics are like a giant invisible handbrake.
