I wonder if there is any truth in this? Ward was originally signed as Kasper's understudy and maybe there is something in his contract that he must be in the matchday squad. Imagine how embarrassing it would be that you are contractually obliged to be selected but you are so bad that the manager has to pick another goalkeeper to ensure that you never actually get onto the pitch.

We are currently on 2.5 points per game. That means that we are on target to drop another 12 points over the remaining 24 games. Unfortunately for Leeds, they are 13 points behind.
-
Yes, a career in politics might suit him since the football didn't work out.

It's better than one in two. I think its shocking that you think that is shocking. Anyway, whether you think its good or bad, you can't call the GOAT 'wank'.

There was a lot of excitement when bought Daka. The one shining light in that disastrous 2021 window. He is a player that has been African young player of the year and Austrian Bundesliga player of the year after scoring 27 goals in 28 games. I think that it is worth noting that he was 23 when he signed and in my view was signed for the future as eventual successor to Vardy.. I'm think that dismissing him on the strength of his performances in Rodgers' dysfunctional relegation side would be something we might live to regret.

With almost half a season gone, we have only dropped 11 points. Leeds are 11 points behind. If we were to keep this form going in the second half of the season, Leeds would have to be perfect and win every single game to catch us. Leeds are on course to become the first side to hit 90 points and NOT get automatic promotion.

Yes, in hindsight, I can understand that we had to fall to our lowest ebb (League One) before we could climb again, but the financial difference between The Championship and League One is negligible compared to the PL and The Championship. It did irritate me however, that we were one of 8 clubs never to have played in the third tier and now there are only 7 of them. Anyway, I think we can agree to disagree on the rest.
-
With PL money and status we could have attracted PL quality players. We had a squad more than capable of staying in the PL while completing a full overhaul, under the right leadership. Relegation was a travesty for this squad. We would also not have had to sell Barnes and likely got a price for Maddison closer to his his actual value. Relegation lcost us literally tens of millions of pounds and puts us back a decade. I can never agree that it could be spun into some kind of a positive.
-
You forgot the hundred million pounds or so that we would also have by staying up.

Lol. You've done it again. If you weren't belittling them last time, you are now

tbh A lot of us (myself included) thought that too. 15/16 was such a miracle and outlier that it is pointless to use it as a benchmark. edit - Actually as I wrote that, it occurred to me that Ipswich had their own miracle, winning the league with a promoted side in the 60s I believe? Or did I just dream that?
-
I guess that few of us that really know much about the Ipswich squad but make the assumption (hope) that a team coming up from League One would likely lack quality in depth over the whole squad, even if they have a good side. You make the point yourself that you couldn't get your summer targets because you weren't an 'attractive enough option'. In most years, either ourselves or Ipswich would be running away with the league, so it is annoying to have someone keeping pace with us, stride for stride (and now going ahead) just as it probably is for you too. I had hoped that you would have fallen away by now, like Preston have, but 21 games in, it is safe to say that it is no fluke and we will probably be going toe to toe for the duration.

It does matter. We have seven second tier titles, tied with Man City. If we win the league we go clear with the most second tier titles ever. And more silverware of course. Well it matters to me anyway.

Surely Cannon gets some minutes now?

If I put myself into Jannick's size thirteens. I would absolutely look to leave where I knew I wasn't wanted. It doesn't sit well with me to continue to take a wage after having failed so badly to earn it. It's parasitic. Especially when you have other options but choose to sacrifice your career. Where is the self-respect?
-
It's not the wife that would have had to play for Fulham, so I don't really see the problem. He wouldn't have to relocate or anything. He chose to sit out his contract. Let's not tie ourselves up in knots trying to spin it any other way. Some might not have any problem with it. but personally it is something I struggle to understand and have zero respect for. His intransigence cost us more than just money. We couldn't play him and whilst he was stealing a wage, we couldn't replace him.
-
Do we know he would have had to take a pay cut? Even if Fulham were offering less, we were keen to recoup our outlay and I would think that we would make up the difference to get it over the line, if that was a deal breaker. Also, leave his home? We're talking about Fulham, not Fenerbache. it's an hour on the train. He wouldn't have to move anywhere and who says he lives in Leicester anyway? I'm sure that many of our current squad commute further. Finally, if he was left in the cold it was because he had proven to be not fit for purpose. That is not treating him like shit.
-
Wait a minute. Treated like shit? Lets rewind. Vestergaard in his first season plays ten PL games which is at least half a dozen too many. He is finally dropped after making himself unselectable after several comedy performances. I don't recall a single dissenting voice on this forum. Pre season 22/23, Fulham come in for him. Hallelujah! But wait. Jannick, having been told that he has no future at the club would rather sit on his titanic arse and collect his unearned wages, surely in the full knowledge of our financial predicament and is also happy to sacrifice his world cup place in the process. He knew that if he stayed he wouldn't play and if he left he would. I'd say that he treated the club like shit. I really shouldn't press the button here.... ...but I can't hep it.

I've perhaps exaggerated in order to make my point. Speaking generally about this kind of possession style, for want of a better phrase, it often encourages the path (pass?) of least resistance. in order to keep the ball and therefore sacrifices directness and flair. Anyway,I just want to point out that none of this is intended as a criticism of Maresca. We know that he is a proponent of this kind of style and he has implemented it very successfully but what has really impressed me is that he has come in and instantly swept away the malaise that hung over the team last year. I thought that the hangover might endure.

They evolved from The Wednesday Cricket club, named after the day of the week that they played. I may have dreamt this but I thought that Hllsborough was built on the site of an abattoir and the blue and white stripes are a nod to butcher's aprons. Both Wednesday and United refer to each other as piggies.
-
Well, I'm not really complaining for two reasons. One, we're top of the league and two, after Puel, Rodgers and now Maresca, it would be safe to assume that this is the direction that Top wants to take us, so we'd better accept it. However, .it is boring imo. Possession football, by its very nature is stifling. In order to keep the ball you often have to go backwards and sideways, It is incompatible with the idea of taking risks. Its a safety first, cautious, ultra-disciplined, over-coached, drain the life out of the game approach. I would rather see mavericks than automatons.
