Apart from Luke Thomas turning into Ryan McGivern, that half was decent

JJ, my box-to-box midfielder

FFS Patson, Ayew would’ve made a successful pass back to Stolarczyk there.
-
FFS Daka, Ayew would’ve reached that

Looks like we’ve got Michael Lamey and Ryan McGivern in the full-back positions tonight
-
Bobby Reid in from the start Thank you Dyche Cifuentes

If there’s a team capable of putting a few goals past then it’s Wrexham, their defensive numbers have been shit. Therefore we’ll probably lose 1-0 to a Kieffer Moore header.

Hat-trick from August Priske tonight, been in red hot form in the Allsvenskan since July.

Only worth going up if we learn from previous mistakes. We got everything wrong last season, from following the wrong trends to piss poor recruitment. You have to get at least one of those things right, Sunderland so far look to have nailed things on the recruitment side. In our case, if we went back up, the whole spine of our team would need revamping. That was one of our catastrophic failures last season.

Their attacking numbers have been scary good in the first 7 games. Keep leading those metrics, they’ll unfortunately be in with a shot of automatics

This. I pointed it out numerous times last season, how many teams in the Premier League were being effective in terms of counter attacks and fast breaks. We ended up being ranked as one of the worst teams in the league in both categories, all because Cooper wanted the likes of Ayew and Reid over players with 1 vs 1 ability and pace. Not getting with the trends and not replacing the injured Fatawu with a like-for-like hurt us massively.

What a beautiful man, phone wallpaper worthy

And we’re about to enter a run of six games that look even better than our first seven. These next six games will tell us a lot about Cifuentes, and hopefully we start to see performances where we play well for a full 90. I just find it odd that he’s ditched certain principles that worked to great effect against Fiorentina. The use of an aggressive press, the use of ‘wide triangles’ look like they’ve disappeared. The amount of times Fatawu was left isolated last night, with the expectancy of him to be able to take on 2-3 players with hardly any support was infuriating. We at least rank 1st for build up attacks so far this season, but it’s just worrisome that we have nobody on the end of our build ups. It’s felt very much like pass, pass, pass, get it out to the wingers and hopefully they do something. We’re probably going to need a bit more than that if we want to get promoted.

Cifuentes is a guy who likes to bang on about the ‘Three Ps’, possession, pressing, positioning. But our pressing is already starting to correlate with his QPR side, a pressing structure that is not aggressive.
-
One thing that has annoyed me about Marti though is our pressing game, what we saw against Fiorentina has completely disappeared so far this season. Just looking at Opta’s statistics, and that evidence sticks out like a sore thumb, from the first six games, we rank… 24th for pressed sequences 20th for PPDA 20th for high turnovers What concerns me about these statistics, is the fact his QPR side were also one of the least aggressive pressing teams in the Championship last season. He has completely abandoned some of the principles that made us an exciting watch against Fiorentina.

All a bit meh so far, but sections of this squad is more worrisome than the manager imo, leopards don’t change their spots, and unfortunately we are still lumbered with a few unlikeable players that dragged the team down last season. 13 shots, 1 on target, sums this team up atm. I really struggle to see where the goals are coming from, unless Fatawu or Mavididi randomly create some magic. We just look like a team with no natural goalscorer and no goals from midfield. When our right-back is looking like one of our major goal threats, you know you have problems.

I’d love to slap a fish right across Keegan Bradley’s face.

Going for the poundland Phil Mickelson look.

Hopefully that makes Cifuentes realise that Bobby Reid needs to be starting every week.- 311 replies
