Spot on. I see those who were adamant that this squad is good enough have suddenly gone quiet. I got lambasted by a few posters back in August for saying elements of this squad just suck. The majority of our defence got us relegated last time, while Coady wasn’t wanted by Everton or Wolves. Whether experienced or not, we have a bunch of defenders who are either bang average or poor at this level nowadays. Still having the likes of Choudhury and McAteer as squad depth is a crime. January will either make us or break us(Ending in relegation).

Losing key experience with Morgan, Fuchs, then Schmeichel, while replacing them with shit didn’t help. Soumare and Daka failing to make an impact didn’t help. Replacing Fofana with Faes didn’t help. Kristiansen and Souttar failing to make an impact didn’t help. Letting players go for free didn’t help. Overloading the squad with Championship standard players hasn’t helped. Our recruitment has been mostly piss poor since the 21/22 season.

Take a look at Kwadwo Baah of Watford too, along with Chakvetadze, he has been my favourite Watford player to watch this season. A defender I really hope we’re looking at. Good to see him actually getting consistent game time this season, he had a few performances last season where he looked the business.

Comparing Kristiansen with Van Aanholt, neither are the most dynamic and skilful of left-backs. Kristiansen is currently averaging pretty much the same amount of dribbles that Van Aanholt was averaging at PSV. Many, myself included felt a LB was a must in the summer. The way RVN has adopted Kristiansen though, going forward his strengths clearly are making overlapping runs and producing early crosses, look at the passage of play for Justin’s chance in the first half yesterday for example. If Kristiansen keeps producing moments like that, then RVN may well stick with the current system. Whatever materialises though, a combination of RB/RCB + LB(Depending what we do with Thomas) or RB + LCB/LB is an absolute must in January.

For a guy who has certain limitations, he’s got forward pretty well in the last two games, even though he lacks dynamism and 1 vs 1 ability. Linking play, allowing him to make overlapping runs and get early crosses into the box seems his main strength. Thought a LB was a must in January, but if Victor continues to show promise, it might not be a priority after all.

Liked the look of him last season, even though he was getting limited game time, has gone up another level this season. A Dutch journalist who was on Talkshite the other week said, he wouldn’t be surprised if RVN goes in for Saibari at some point.
