Those couple of key words though “With a couple of additions”. My belief in finishing 17th or higher would increase a few levels if a couple of additions were made. But purely speaking off the basis of how our squad looks now, do people genuinely think it’s good enough to finish 17th or higher, because personally I don’t see it. Only players I think are really equipped for this league are Hermansen, Ricardo, Winks and Vardy(Even though he only scored 3 goals the last time we were in the Premier League) People can bang on about having the likes of Justin and Ndidi, but they are not the same players they once were. The defence especially still worries me. We still have Choudhury and Soumare as depth options. The jury is out on what Mavididi and Fatawu can do at this level, while we still have Daka and Cannon as striker options. So much is still needed for us to be competitive in this league imo, we as fans have known that for weeks, but even though Cooper has frustrated the fvck out of me in Pre Season, he is only saying what we the fans have been saying. Sorry for the mini rant, but I bloody needed it

But we lack goals and lack creativity, that’s not an excuse, hundreds of fans on this forum have said the exact same thing ever since KDH was sold. Elements of this squad are just not up to Premier League standard, we have a bunch of car crash style defenders, we have Ndidi, Choudhury and Soumare as midfield options and Daka is still one of our main strikers. If you or I were manager, we’d be saying the exact same thing that Cooper has said today.

Isn’t it a bit of both though Finners? Burnley won the 22/23 Championship with over 100 points, they had Premier League experience scattered through their squad and look how they got on last season. At the end of the day, we had the likes of Ricardo, Ndidi, Faes, Vestergaard, Vardy, Daka and Justin with us the last time we were in the Premier League and got relegated with them. Choudhury got loaned out the last time we were in the Prem. While Conor Coady wasn’t wanted by Wolves or Everton. Cooper’s tactics have been poor in pre season, but I said it after the Augsburg game and might as well say it again now, elements of this squad just fvcking suck and are nowhere near Premier League quality.

His history of developing youth was the only thing I was hanging my hat on when it came to his appointment, but after what he’s done with certain players in this pre season, the only positive I had already looks to be firmly in the bin. It’s going to be kick the ball up the field and hope for the best type football, especially away from home. I fear we’re going to be this seasons Sheffield United, we may even get a worse points total than Derby in 07/08, and with this defence, we’ll probably concede over 100 goals too.
