Marti Cifuentes - Style of Play, Tactics and Analysis
Aleksz replied to StriderHiryu's topic in Leicester City Forum
Indeed, in relation to your technical ability comment I personally thought he was a lot better that season inverting into the middle from RB as he just seemed to have a bit more time. I don't see him ever being an out and out midfielder again to be honest. RB or Inverting RB. -

Is this like total possession obssesed Enzo Maresca didn't want him anywhere near his team either..... Oh wait, he used him quite a fair bit actually. Hamza is a lot of things, technically limited yes, and yeah a tool with his personal life (if that was completely your reasoning, then fair enough)... but what he does give you on the pitch is the ability to eat up a lot of ground very quickly when you've lost the ball and committed a lot of men forward. Especially when your other options are Harry Winks and Oliver Skipp who run like they're carrying a wheely bin, Vestergaard, Faes and Coady that run like... well they can't run. TLDR; These managers don't look at Hamza and get caught up about his technical ability, they look at him and see the safety net he provides in rest defence when their side is committing a lot of men forward. -

Choudhury is a pressing/high line managers dream. He'll be a big fan. -

Correct according to the research I've put into Cifuentes. Might even see both full backs invert either side of him let alone one. -
No. We've got a better fit in Marti even if Rohl perhaps has the better potential ceiling as a manager, but that's merely conjecture. Plus this place would have burnt down by now if we'd waited.

Pink was the rumour, but that goalkeeper kit throws it into doubt a tad.

Ricardo is a shoe in for captain, don't think there will be much debate in the coaching staff's mind. Vice captain could be very much open for interpretation depending how he wants to look at it and who would still be here at the end of the window.

Think that's very likely at the moment whilst we haven't got a stand out striker. -
The team of analysts is bigger than the one listed on the website.

To be fair he’s probably been walking around Seagrave in a disguise for about a week whilst Jon was using his visa application as a colouring book

Watched that video again, such a good watch and so much to take from it. I’ve shot a few managers names down on this forum over the last few weeks for not being “a good fit” but this honestly feels a perfect fit with Marti watching that video. Feels right.

Assertive in saying he wants everyone to wish each other good morning and then also on the pitch with how he wants things, talking to Ricardo and Okoli in their languages. Marti I'm moved.

Have now, coady dispatched

Great example. Its doable if a manager has the balls.

Couldn't agree more with this, said the same about some of the assumptions regarding King. There are parasocial assumptions and opinions about people at the club posted on here all the time. You'd think people on here live at Seagrave or something. -

I love how Winks always gets the blame for this like anyone in that night club, never mind any player, could have requested one of the night club girls to hold a sign with that on it -
10 day camp, 3 more games, can't complain. Perfect for Marti to get to work and shape us tactically - I'm sure there will be double sessions too. Only complaint would be they could have given a bit more notice, I'm sure this would have been a great week away for some.

Spot on in terms of what I said about rotations. Thought the same but didn't want to over egg it. Maresca is closer to Guardiola (shock) style in terms of lots of structure. It seems like Cifuentes leans much more towards of fluidity of positions. -
Some on here would say the same about Enzo Tbf and look how that’s ended up.
-
Despite the fact a fair few managers now that actually work with him on a day to day basis have given him the armband. Anyway, Ricardo captain, winks vice. Coady if he’s here as he’s viewed in the wider football world, away from agendas, as a leader. Picks itself really. He’d really be upsetting the Apple cart (which in fairness is debatably needed) in order to give any role to Nelson.

I think the key difference for me, is yes it will likely be a similar style of play to enzo in terms of possession and build up shape - but there will be positional rotations for sure. With Enzo you knew where every player was going to be at any given time - his most predictable and biggest negative factor imo. Under Cifuentes you'll see much more positional rotation e.g perhaps the deepest midfielder (Winks/Skipp) drops in to the back line, or Ricardo wanders in to midfield, or on the next move Ricardo is very much high and wide. He’s very much more flexible than structured unlike Enzo. I also wouldn’t be surprised if he hasn’t got as much of a desperation for a new striker as some of you guys - he’s used a false 9 a lot in the past. Perhaps Mavididi or Bilal (in event of the miracle that he stays) could end up filling that spot. Finally, in some of the games and clips I’ve watched he’s much more of a pressing manager than we’ve had in a long time, even more than Enzo who had an aggressive man to man marking set up most of the time. Glad @StriderHiryu started this thread as I’ve watched a lot of clips but couldn’t be bothered to start a thread -
Gone in to Sunderland.

Not exactly done a whole lot wrong to be honest. Not exactly conceded a bucket load from set pieces. Everyone uses Brentford as a shining light - their model is employ coaching staff for the club not the manager. Hence Andrews’ promotion.

I'm sure many would hate the idea of that (because gold) but I totally understand the principle of what you're saying in terms of a perfect marketing opportunity. They're probably micromanaging the narrative out there that much to the point they don't want to highlight how far we've fallen in the ten years since.
