I think it's face to face banter that has spilled over into us conning ourselves on here. It's standard wind up merchant stuff to be like "cov?, never heard of them mate." When you are in a conversation with cov fans. But I think that sort of stuff also works on our own fans. We start saying it to ourselves and in some way, a few of us believe it and repeat it. Even if were privately well up for the game, we feign indifference. It's a weird kidology and it makes no sense really.

Moore might end up decent, but Warnock got 8 points in 5 games and got binned. 😂 I'd much rather have Warnock there for a scrap at the bottom of the league though. They look soft all of a sudden now.
-
This was their Chief Exec 3 months after Warnock signed a new deal. “At this point, we now feel we are ready to make a longer-term managerial appointment. I’ve had detailed discussions with Neil and, alongside Ronnie, Carl Serrant and Ian Bennett, he’s agreed to step aside to allow us to do this." They didn't call it a sacking, but they found a replacement and told him he wasn't needed. He had the good grace not to fight them over it. Not that he could do much. It's only not a sacking if you believe the spin.

Say what you like about Warnock. (I think most of us have over the years.) But he's a clever sod. He had Huddersfield playing an ugly style of full team man for marking system, that was quite hard to deal with for most teams. We didn't look that convincing ourselves until we started to adapt. Now he's been harshly sacked and replaced by a less experienced manager in Moore. I think we are starting to see that those Huddersfield players were being kept competitive by Warnock. Huddersfield are pap when they play more conventional football.

It is in Italian, as you might expect. But I don't seem to be able to find it either. Here is a good article that also mentions a fair bit about Enzo and his studies. https://www.coachesvoice.com/cv/enzo-maresca-tactics-leicester-city/

Deleted as it's already posted. I🤣

I agree, I wasn't trying to dismiss the mental aspect of it, in fact I could go on about that part of the game for pages. It's just that others have already mentioned this. I was trying to add something new.

I'll stick to the physical side of it as there are a few responses already. Two things that haven't really been mentioned here explicitly, are speed of passing and always looking to gain numerical superiority. With our changing passing speeds from slow to fast were trying to find the right moment to advance suddenly up the pitch. Sometimes after beating the press, sometimes after moving the defensive team around. If we have blown their formation with our passing, the only thing a defending side can really do is sprint back into a more defensive shape. That can be really hard for the individual player after working hard on a press, or 40+ passes trying to keep someone covered. This can cause midfielders and attackers and fullbacks to "redline" and tire quickly. The other issue is the numerical superiority. We keep trying to force that extra player advantage wherever we can. See @StriderHiryu and his analysis of this game as a key example. If weve got one more player than them in an area then one Preston player has to cover two people. Or the whole defensive unit has to shuffle across following the ball. That takes work. You have to be fast on the shuffle to avoid being caught marking nobody. It's the burst of high impact work that we force opposing teams to do that really hurts them. It's like they are doing HIIT training.

I just thought this was a clever play on his user name tbh.

I don't mind a bit of a poundland Cantona/Russel Crowe "Are you not entertained?". If that's how he motivates himself and if it helps him to run those extra yards he does, then fine. But I see your point about finding it hard to bond with him. I think he's a player that frustrates because he's such an odd collection on great attributes and very average ones. Great engine and left foot, poor control and missing right foot. He showed up today with some really good finishing. But he also had some patches where he kept the ball too long and a couple of poor touches. This season he HAS to fix his technical floors. When/if we go up, he could get targeted for the press if his touch is still iffy.

Leicester City 3-0 Preston North End - Post Match Thread

Seeing as he's on 4 yellows, he might be about to give himself a rest. Which is another reason to do as you say. -
This kid has huuuuge potential. The pace, the tricks, the crosses, the tracking back and, most important for me; the vision to make some real killer passes. There was a through ball that just failed to Vardy in the 1st half. Snappy first time chip exactly where Vards wanted it but Preston got to it first. It just made me think in 6 months time this kid will be a monster. Half this forum is talking about when he gets that 1st goal then he's going to take off. By the end of the year he could be our best player. This "option" to buy is looking like another outstanding bit of business from our recruitment team.

Can anyone else smell a long ball over the top from these lot a mile off? I refuse to be shithoused by this lot. One of JJ or Hamza to sit a little deeper and offer some protection please. Mads can spend most of the game outside his box as well frankly. What's the odds on Mads having a higher average position than their cbs?
-
I want him banned from every stadium in the country not just Hilsborough. Football, and football crowds are a reflection on society. He needs to be ostracized to show others that this cannot be tolerated. With a decent lawyer even a section 4 public order offence won't get him more than a fine and maybe community service. If he never sees football again that might actually hurt him.
-
I'd have him drilled forever on those back post scenarios. He's had enough to be top scorer in the league. If he starts to put away just 50% he will get 20 this year with the way we play easy. Against teams who sit back I would like to see Kasey have a few minutes on that side. It feels like we have real options on both sides. And Kasey seems a bit more technically advanced.
-
Give this lad a tap in! Once we get that goal, he's going to play with even more freedom. Can't wait to see him sharpen up those shots and final passes. I feel like he could easily be our most dangerous player in 6 months.

Don't want to make this into a Rodgers comparison thread. But Enzo is speaking a second language and still is clearer, more concise and more direct than a guy who has been speaking English his whole life. That's was the first thing that jumped out to me when I heard his early interviews. His clarity and his communication give us direction and focus. Everybody knows exactly what they are doing. Everyone from the players, coaches, the PTs to the Scouts will be in know doubt what exactly is required of them. It feels like this is helping to pull greater results from them all.
-
Point 2 here. Barnes more commonly, but Sargent also would swap with a central midfielder to pull defenders out of position who were man marking them. A midfielder would push forward to continue the 424 formation. This was mainly against Huddersfield. But it's interesting to see that they are willing to get well out of position to compromise the opposing teams formation.
-
Unsure if you watched the Norwich game against Huddersfield. (Warnock has been operating this man-marking press which is quite interesting imo.) In that game both strikers would interchange with the midfielders in their box. They have done this quite regularly since to break up their cover. This could be something to watch out for on the day. Especially if we do well in the early exchanges. Idah will be interesting. Not sure how comfortable he is dropping into midfield. If he does, we need to target him with a press. If he doesn't then Norwich's fluidity will be affected. However I fully expect Wagner to come up with a new plan for us.

LCFC v Norwich (A) - 20/09/23 @ 8:00PM - PRE MATCH THREAD

Famous last words incoming. But Justin has been fit for about 6 months. He was fit at the end of last season, only the squad list stopped him being involved. He's also been training and conditioning himself over the summer when other players were in recovery from the last season. I think he's had some minor soft tissue issues since the start of the season. But so has half the team. I think he's as ready as he's ever going to be to play two games back to back -
I suggested that JJ could step in for Faes a while back. Our defence lacks pace once Ricardo advances. So we will always be vulnerable to counters without JJ there. The ball over the top is more difficult when JJ can chase it down as well as the opposing striker. Let's all just pray he stays fit for a while.
-
I feel like KDH is a odd mix of some prem level skills and some League 2 skills. I hope either he, or one of the coaches gets him doing some extra training focusing on these weaknesses in his game. If he can hammer out issues around his touch and a few other bits and pieces, he could become the first name on the team sheet.
-
I'd much rather see JJ operate in that role. What we lose 8n passing ability we will make up in defensive solidity down that side. I worry that the hull game has shown teams that we have a weakness in that area.
-
I know this isn't a thread about this, but I think both these players came for the manager. His philosophy and tactics are perfect for their game. They've both had managers that made them shine and managers that made them look average. Maybe they think it's better to be in the heart of a team that plays to their strengths, than struggling in a prem team that makes them play differently.
