Huddersfield (H) 4-1 - New Years Day - Post-Match Thread
Jimbo replied to lnkstern's topic in Leicester City Forum
I'd love to hear 20000 fans collectively shout "Rock on Tommy" but I guess you have to be of a certain age to get the reference -
And here is the problem with the atmosphere, and it's been that way for years There's a little bit of snobbery. I admit that some of the songs they come up with a pretty bad, but they're still chants that positively add to the atmosphere. I'd rather hear the Winks chant sung by a couple of thousand than hear the sarcastic "sshhh" we had at points today. Love them or hate them, the union FS boys are trying to create a better fan experience inside the ground. The more people turn their noses up at them, the longer it takes them to grow, the longer it's the same guys coming up with the chants that people find "grating" If we accept them for what they are, the more likely that area of the ground is to expand, the more people join in the more likely it is that newer "members" are able to add to the song book with different less grating chants

Yeah I agree, but they didn't even look interested when we went 2 up. Surely at 2-0 your game plan is out of the window. It helped that they got their goal so soon after our 3rd and gave them a bit of spark. I know it's a completely different game and mindset at 3-0 or 3-1 but they looked half decent when they came at us -

I haven't seen it back yet either, but I think he's just caught him out. Should be stopping it though -
Anything more than 2 syllable sentences or random noise making is too much for some I personally love some of our songs, Fatawu, Mavididi etc imagine the majority of the ground doing the Daka chant. The union FS boys do try and if they keep going they'll hopefully get bigger, but today even they were flat. It's the 1st time in a long time I heard L1 from where I was sat

Was poor today, but a couple of big factors probably behind it. 1) a lot of sore heads and tired eyes from last night 2) the horrible realisation that the festive period is over and a lot of people are back to work tomorrow, so everyone is pretty pee'd off New years day game, in my memory anyway, have always been like today so I wasn't expecting much, could barely get up for it myself

Their Keeper must really hate getting done at his near post by Mavididi, twice this season he's done that to him π -

They didn't really start playing until they were 3-0 down, if they'd played like that the whole game it could have been a more decent game -
So basically what we're all saying is that he's a 19 year old winger, wingers typically blow hot and cold and at 19 he's still learning his trade. It's clear to see he has plenty of potential and looks to be a positive influence in the squad, which is fantastic when you consider his age. I just hope that his positivity carries on if he does sign permanently and we do go up. Championship fullbacks aren't Premier League fullbacks, he's got a lot to learn next season should we all get what we want. And then hope he doesn't do a Mahrez on us and throw a small hissy fit when Pep comes calling with an offer of half what he's worth π He looks very, very impressive and has established himself as a starter and a fan favorite quite quickly. But I'm still not 100% sure if he looks as impressive as he does because he's very good or if it's because fullbacks get tight on him when they shouldn't and give him space when they should be on him. Back to the original point though, if he does improve his finishing, then we've certainly got the makings of another Mahrez type on our hands and our search for a left footed right winger could be finally over, for another couple of years at least

Quite agree. Although I've been a Leicester fan for far too long now, so I'm still waiting for us to cock this up somehow π If people think this season is boring then I'd suggest they're reasonably young/newer fans who see the Premier League as this false promise land where only the super wealthy compete, everyone else is just there to make up the numbers. Don't get me wrong, we obviously had a great run, but we've been easily replaced by Brighton and Villa as the new faces to upset the big 6, and in time they'll be replaced by someone else (hopefully us again) but it's very difficult to sustain and the cycle will continue until this new Champions League format inevitably becomes the European super League in a decade or 2. I love the Premier League as a spectacle and the glitz and glam, but nothing beats the championship for drama. Sure, the football isn't as great or as clinical, but it's a more pure form of the game. For starters no VAR, proper fans who don't just go just to say they've been day trippers. Just over half way through the season and any team down to 14th are a win or 2 away from a shot at promotion still, knowing that historically someone down in 18th or 19th can and may well do make a late run at getting into the playoffs. Having a winning feeling helps of course, breaking records along the way but we know what we're getting down here. At least half of the teams in the Premier League have the main target of reaching the 40 point mark and then seeing how much higher they can finish in the table for the extra few hundred thousand coming into the bank account

Cardiff (A) 0-2 - 29 Dec - Post-Match Thread

Yeah, I can see it being 90+points to finish above 3rd this season. We need 10 or 11 more wins to be sure. Our advantage is currently that Southampton are really putting the pressure of Ipswich and Leeds, so while the 3 of them are scrapping in out, mentally the all the pressure is on them and they could start to slip backwards, although there seems to be no stopping the Saints at the moment. -

I agree but now think about this This is the last game of the season and we need the win for promotion, anything less would see us miss out, I doubt so many would be as understanding. It's only because the result last night doesn't mean as much that we're being as forgiving as we are. -

100% a penalty but a win for us for would have been harsh in Ipswich. Just wish the equaliser wasn't scored in that manner at that time of the match, it's the sort of goal that really knocks the stuffing out of you. Can't complain too much, a couple of weeks ago and Ipswich could have gone above us with a win still 6 points clear of 2nd and 11 clear of 3rd. Going all the way back to watching the players wave at almost empty stadium and a spattering of spurs fans in the rain over in the far east, if you'd have offered me where we are now I'd have laughed in your face π But I do know one thing, I've read a lot of Ipswich fans moaning at refereeing decisions go against them all season, if they complain at anything tonight I'll go right off them, could have easily been down to 10 (admittedly harshly) as well as the penalty decision not given. -

I'm really not getting any under garments in a twist. Take a breath, see the jovial undertones in what I'm saying and admit you've been a bit of a plonker. Untangle your pants and stop the over use of exclamation marks π -

"but Daka was closer to the goal than the goalkeeper was when he received the ball. Iβm pretty sure thatβs offside isnβt it?" but that's not what you said........?? π -

And that's the reason we let him go. He's the original Iverson, but wouldn't lace Logan's boots -

There were at least 3 players (including the keeper) playing him onside when the ball was played. When you receive the ball has absolutely nothing to do with it. It's like trying to explain the offside rule to the wife -

To be fair, of you're still going at 2pm from the night before and you still haven't pulled, then she's well out of your league -
I'm not sure I agree with you here. Nelson is a fantastic player and I personally believe he'll mature into the type of defender managers like Enzo love having, a great, modern central defender, comfortable with the ball and not shy to get stuck in. I can see him having a very decent future
-
Could (probably should) have been 3 or 4 up before we gave them a proper sniff. Lost our way a bit for the last 10-15 minutes of the 1st half, looked like we'd set up expecting Plymouth to play a bit differently than they did. Changed it up a bit 2nd half, killed it off within 10 minutes, end of story really. Daka, looked a little rusty in terms of tactics, made a run when he shouldn't have, came short when he shouldn't have etc but fair play to the lad, thought he actually looked quite decent and gave us a threat we haven't really had so far this season with pace in behind in the centre. Fatawu looks different class and another showing of ridiculous our squad depth is. Not too much to complain about today
-
There was something like a 9 point gap between 1st-16th, just goes to show what we, and Ipswich, have done this season. I just only hope that gap to 3rd is 17 points in a few hours time
-
They'll attack quick, we'll attack slow and look to control the tempo. Enzo won't want to give the ball up easy for fear of them catching us on the break, so expect to see a lot of slow build up, probably with more side ways passing than usual. Plenty being made of both sides having great attacking players, so 0-0 written all over it π I'm worried about tonight but if we get an early goal and control the tempo of the game we may be fine. I do expect Leeds to come here and play just like everyone else, in particular Sunderland, but they are far more threatening going forward than anyone else we've faced so far, so sloppy turn overs will be punished tonight

Back in my days sitting in L1 for that Nails goal, I still vividly remember thinking to myself when he hit "what the hell? He's skied th..........what a f******g strike!" π

If my aunt had wheels she'd be a bike. We could have lost, but we didn't. We could have lost a couple more too, but we didn't. We could have beat Everton last season and stayed up, but we didn't. It's not football manager, we can't switch off without saving every time a result isn't going our way and I'm sure we'll drop points in a few games, but playing the way we are, performing the way we are, after last season, let's just enjoy and dream again
