ScouseFox Posted 9 February 2016 Posted 9 February 2016 when do you sleep if your shifts for the next 5 days are 0230-1030? before or after work? currently debating a two naps procedure, 3 or 4 hours before and after work. might die though.
duk3nuk3m Posted 9 February 2016 Posted 9 February 2016 My worst stint of night shifts was on an offshore rig in the North Sea 2 years ago doing an electrical installation; 12 15 hour night shifts in a row... What was worse was that I was stuck there for 23 days in total and had to switch from 12 hour days to 15 hour nights and back to 12 hour days again. Brutal. Got to look forward to 12 13 hour night shifts in a row this month... in Coventry. FML
DB11 Posted 9 February 2016 Posted 9 February 2016 Worked nights Fri/Sat/Sun/Mon and now I am on my days off. Sat here not tired at all but should probably try to get to sleep so as to not mess up my sleeping pattern too much Two nights is ok, but having done four and returning to earlies on Friday means I've not got long to adjust!
separator Posted 9 February 2016 Posted 9 February 2016 Got to look forward to 12 13 hour night shifts in a row this month... in Coventry. FML Bloody hell thats harsh... AND you have to do 12 13 hour shifts as well. Luckily in my job im not allowed to work more that 6 days in a row
fuchsntf Posted 11 February 2016 Posted 11 February 2016 I did shifts for the majority of my working life,in 3 different careers , around the globe, even in supervisor, or management postion. My last 5 years, I was able to work flexy hrs. I can honestly say, though I had my ups and downs, and thoughts of getting into a 'normal' working schedule,I prefered, either direct customer contact, or working in the field, I enjoyed my work, so long as the technical translation was there, or involved with customers. 12hr shifts I enjoyed most, even in a supervisory roll, but those shifts were not regular in my life. Shifts meant one could use the days within the month for various tasks, like banking, normal shopping, getting appointments, for local and various authorities or admin. No need to take days off for home commitments, even before I was married. Short holidays, even longer weekends, or ie being able to take a longer holiday, - 18 days off but only 12 days debitted. When in the time I was contracting, hard earned hrs were well payed, including sometimes payed free time. Though it seems in recent yrs the younger generation, are not getting those benifits/expenses as before. Especially when agencies are involved. I was lucky that I never felt tied down, and was willing to work n travel anywhere, on any location. Some locations were more profitable than others...Shifts did tire me out, but the perks were worth it. More importantly I was lucky, to have a couple of girlfriends and then wife, who never complained or found fault, with the varying 'Togetherness or absences' No boring 9:00 - 5:00 for me , in my time management appreciated the shift work, especially overseas.
