Chances Created - A Comparison

I think these stats make interesting reading. And an eye opener (for some).

The 'defensive actions' set of stats is illuminating. And shows just how much work Wes Morgan has had to do and how much defensive work our midfield players haven't done.

No shock there.

Cue 'damn lies' etc.

Tackles and blocks can be a misleading stat especially for defenders.

The best defenders may be able to snuff out a chance without doing either.

A lot of blocks and tackles can be because the defender is caught out of position and is forced into doing one or the other.

Apparently the very best defenders don't appear too highly in these lists unlike the direct correlation for attacking players in the goals and assist charts.

I've not looked but the GK's who make the most saves will also be the one who've let in the most goals, that's almost certainly true.

This thread is about chances created.

It's also about a website that provides stats on players attributes across the season.

So I've made a point about Wes Morgan being one of the best blockers of shots in the division. And suggested he's had to be due to insufficient defensive cover (a point I've made a number of times this season).

Rathen than debate that, or add to the thread in any other interesting way, you've chosen to use the term 'pathetic' attached to one of my comments..

How does that discuss anything?

All it does is attempts to thwart any discussion.

Not for the first time.

Funny that you picked out the ones stat out of thousands that brings up a critisism of Cambiasso.... "not for the first time", in a thread about our players creating chances.... now what are the chances of that?

I'll leave it there, you know exactly what you are doing.

From Squawka

Player - Games - Key Passes - Assists

Cambiasso -  28 - 31 - 1

Hmmm, only 1 assist? Was that the free-kick that King converted against West Ham? Is that really the only one??

It's because his passes are too advanced for our simple strikers to put away!

So now 'I know what I'm doing'?

Sorry, I thought I was communicating with Babylon, not Sigmund.

Yes, best leave it there..your tone seems to be spoiling for an argument when there doesn't need to be one.

I made the point earlier that NONE of our players stand out well in any of the chances created stats.

That's because it's true..They don't.

The assists stats are pants. It's not until we've introduced Albrighton that we've been able to deliver crosses!

And our 'killer ball' (despite myth and fantasy) has been severely lacking.

This is why Vardy recently has been crucial. He is making his own chances. The goal v West Brom being a good example.

Shouldn't the Vardy goal against West Brom count as an assist for Cambiasso? Mcauley didn't touch the ball, it was Cambiassos clearance Vardy got on the end of, which once again highlights my point that assist stats are so unreliable.

And no one knows more about assists than you*

I wouldn't say they're unreliable as over a long enough time frame there is less variance and more evidence and the perceived better players always populate these charts.

However Messi, Ronaldo and myself could play for a non league side. I could just make a 5-10 yard pass to them every time I got the ball and look a star statistically with 80 assists a season when in reality most of the time they took the pass from me on the half way line, beat three players and scored.

These two graphics show the location of the chances created, showing that Mahrez prefers the more central position with around half his chances created coming from the middle of the pitch, compared to Albrighton who has created more than half of his chances from the right flank...

Albrighton

Mahrez has obviously played mostly on the the right so his chances will come from cutting in on his left foot, hence them mostly being central.

What are the stats for Brady from Hull? Watching against Arsenal I thought he put in some fantastic balls from the left hand side. Seemed very much in the same style of Albrighton. He's obviously an old signing for Hull by Pearson.
