Junior Lewis, I am ashamed to say.

 

I watched his first game for us, against Southampton at the Dell, which was not long after the time Rio Ferdinand was transferred to Leeds for about 18 Mill. I thought we had got a really cultured player who looked like Ferdinand, and played like him, at a fraction of the price. What a dickhead. Me, I mean.

Neil Lewis.

Thought he was really talented when he came on the scene, but don't think he played a 100 games in his career. He banked with us and I did meet him a couple of times before City transferred him. He told me he struggled with the tactical side of the game, keeping position etc. Shame could have had a decent career.

101 league appearances was a bit of a Schlupp, athletic and pacy but a bit lacking up top, remember him thinking he had been sent off and walking off the pitch, it was a Central Match Live game, someone else had been shown the red card, he trudged off only to come back on about 5 minutes later after someone had got him back from the changing room.

...but as with most of the cases in this thread, didn't have the right head to make the most his talent.

For some reason, my first reaction to reading that, was Stan Collymore. The broken leg didn't help, but it was mostly his head.

Haha - Andy King. From day one as an Academy player when someone poked a goal in through a ruck of players it was Kingy. Now for all the myth the stats give us about his being the best midfield player in our history - with the most goals - he can't even get into the team ahead of Inler.

 

Loughborough Dynamo should stay alert because that's surely where he might as well focus his sights for the future.

 

More seriously Levi Porter wasted what should have been a promising career. He had some excellent games on the wing and even shone against Chelsea in the Cu because he had the simple attribute of being able to pass and move consistently.

 

For me he had more potential as a central midfield playmaker but many  of us believe we know what happened and it was just such a calamatous waste of potential. From something to nothing in the blink of an eye. 

 

It was pity too that Billy McKay didn't quite have the power to be a Premiership striker or "man in the hole". Billy had to disappear into relative obscurity in Scotland to get his break with Caledonian Thistle.

 

Okay he became their leading scorer for most of their recent seasons but even the top end of the Scottish League these days is pretty dire and something that Sturgeon woman should be looking at way ahead of Independence, which the Scottish people have already voted on although she's no intention of listening to them.      

 

McKay - though slight of frame - was always such a natural footballer - a guy who could see the pictures, pick a pass and score goals for fun. He didn't get a look in at Leicester when the foreign legion arrived under Mandaric although injury played its part as well.

 

Some will wonder why I haven't mentioned Sheehan. Still the most gifted dead ball specialist I've seen at the club at a time when we hadn't got another player in the same league for that particular skill, Sheehan was a decent footballer too. He just couldn't turn or run quickly enough to be the left-back or left-sided midfielder he aspired to be. And he was forever getting booked because of it.   

 

In the end he was offered a contract renewal but turned it down and was never heard of again. But no - though the myth persists - I never saw him as being a Premiership star - just the dead ball specialist we needed so badly needed and still do. In that capacity - via corners or free-kicks - he was a class apart.
